JD - Brad is not from the band Nic played with last year. Most of them went to college and Nic is still in high school. Nic plays with a couple bands: Bad Brad & The Fat Cats, and duos with Al Chesis. Whenever any "name" harp player comes to town Nic usually ends up on stage with him.
Jay, I didn't get any video of me and Nic playing together because I am the guy with the video camera and because it happened kind of spontaneously. At the end of the jam my host band was doing a last set and we called Nic up at the end. We went through the usual "what do you wanna play" stuff and I said, "How 'bout Juke?"
Nic dove right into the signature lick and off we went. We each did a version of the first 12 and then passed it back and forth. We ended up trading 4s. It wasn't your grampa's Juke. It was rockin'.
Nic is an amazingly mature musician and performer. Really, he is just a kid but when playing he is so damn instinctual and natural. I just KNEW where he was going with the song and where his musical ideas were leading. As I've said elsewhere, it was about the most fun I've ever had without getting arrested.
BTW. Nic brought a Buffalo Harp Amp to the jam that was loaned to him by Ronnie Shellist. Remember those? Cool amp, but it wasn't really loud enough so he play through the Mission 32-20 amp.
Under-age performers can play at my jam at Ziggies as long as their parents have signed an affidavit with the City of Denver and a guardian is present. In clubs that serve food they can be there until the kitchen closes.
Yeah, the Buffalo amps were really good. I was surprised when he stopped making them.
