Since the subject of cleaning harps comes up now and then--I just want to pass along this tidbit--There is a product that is widely available in music stores and at Musician's Friend called Mi-T-Mist mouthpiece Cleanser. I have been using this in place of Gordon's Dry Gin for a while now--and it really works great on harps. Just spray a little on, let it sit for a moment, and wipe it off. Removes most all of the grime from playing and leaves a nice minty flavor--it dries off really fast too.
This won't replace the Jason Ricci Kaboom/alcohol method of deep cleaning--but it sure does freshen up a harp on the fly without taking off the covers. I wouldn't be without it anymore. . .

You stopped cleaning with Gin? I like Jack Daniels Black Label for cleaning my harps. Of course if I bought a Buddha harp I would have to get Gentleman Jack or Single Barrell!

Preston, there are still those of us that don't have Gin/any alcohol available to clean with. Thanks for the tip oldwailer. ---------- Beginning harpist and possibly the only LDS person on this forum. :P

Do you live in a dry county, or are you underage? My condolenses on either one.
Seriously though, sometimes when I get all liquored up I do my best playing. Sometimes it's my worst. Sometimes it makes you fearless, and sometimes it leaves you with a mush-mouth that can't bend or overblow. You never know which one it may be, and that's why I don't play for others while drinking too often.

I think being too young in Utah and/or an LDS person make availability of drinking alcohol reasonably unavailable and certainly morally wrong!
I say this as a person who was born in California but raised in Central Utah--with no intention of offending anybody at all. . .

some of us just don't mess with that sort of alcohol these days. now 91% rubbing alcohol has been a mainstay of mine for years when it comes to harp cleanup.
may try that spray stuff though.....

oldwailer nailed it for me. I'm about as close as possible to Utah without actually leaving Idaho, I'm only 19, and I don't think I would ever drink anyway. Rubbing alcohol sounds like another good alternative though. ---------- Trumpeter, beginning harpist, and possibly the only LDS person on this forum.
