In order not to hijack another thread I thought I would start a new one here. I have been reading about the Vox Mini 3 modelling combo. Some of the reviews seem quite good.

It is a small amp with modelling and a 5" speaker. With amp models and effects built in.

I am looking for something to practice on. I have a VHT Special 6, which I modded this week, but it still needs to be cranked up to get the tone I am after. The Vox would seem ideal for practicing at acceptable volumes at home. Does anyone have any feedback on their experiences?

Thanks

Martin

I own one of those. I love it! It has a great tone, and is cheap.
I think is the perfect busking amp (works whit batteries) becasuse it gives you a lot of options to work on your sound.

Easy to use, light weight, good tone, cheap, loud enough for your room (or even house), what else do you want?

Dos it sound better than my tube amp? Answer: It sounds diferent. The tube amp has a 8" speaker, the vox a 5" speaker. That gives you more depth to the sound, and thats about it.

I am going to say that the mini vox is better thatn the tube amp beacasue it has more posibilities of sound. Both have great tone, but the tube amp only gives a limit range of sounds.

If you can plug the mini amp into a cabinet whit larger speaker, I truly believe that no one is going to tell the diference betwen this an a tube amp.

Here some videos:

I agree with ragonzab.

Yes it's a nice little amp and as I said in the other thread it's the one I use most round the house but I've also used it busking and for the odd little performance at my school.

The mini3 I think replaced the DA5 in the Vox line, but they are both good and very similar on the whole. I chose the mini3 over the DA5 mostly due to the fact that it took AA batteries rather than C cells.

cheers

I wasn't going to comment on this, since I own the DA-5 and haven't tried the mini3. But that's my review of the DA-5 above so.... If the mini3 is as good as or better than the DA-5, I'd sure recommend it. I was considering doing another DA-5 video, but then I realized it isn't made any more. But since I did that vid I got a better mic with a Shure 99A86 element and it sounds great through the DA-5, especially on the "clean 2" model with a bit of reverb. Just crank the gain and adjust the master volume to suit. If it's bedroom volume you want, you can't go wrong with the Vox on the 0.5 watt power setting.

Very nice playing rogonzab and the amp sounds good too. I've been looking for a small battery powered amp that I could lug over to my neighbors front porch for some beer drinking, cigar smoking jam sessions and this may just fill the bill. I also like that it allows you to plug in a guitar, microphone, and Ipod at the same time. Musicians Friend has them for $79.00...I'm really tempted!

I plug my ipod into the mini3, play a Little Walter tune, plug in a mic and play along. This adds my harp to the mix. Believe it or not, I can get pretty close to the Walter sound with this amp.

The Mini3 is a great little practice amp. I played it and its competitors at the store, and it had much more of a "big amp" sound to my ears. My main amp is a Vox Vt30, so it was a plus that it had the same models and effects. And since it runs on batteries, I can throw it in the trunk with a mic and play anywhere.

Highly recommended.

You could fit an L pad attenuator to the VHT. Worked on my Peavey 8.
