Mississippi Heat is celebrating 20 years in the business with DELTA BOUND from Delmark Records. I have several of their CDs spanning these decades and they never disappoint. Pierre Lococque's not mentioned a whole lot around here, but he certainly is a very solid, veteran blues harp man with great tone and lick vocabulary. I've reviewed the latest on my blog listed in my sig.

I absolutely agree!
My wife and I went to the New Hampshire Or White Mountains Blues fest and they were very good!
One of (if not the best) actual blues band there.
That was an odd festival. Great location, but odd line up. Mississippi Heat was the second band to play that day so I thought wow this is going to be good!
The performers proceeded to get further away from Blues with each band.
I also saw them in the mid 90's. Enjoyed it both times.

There is a reason why Pierre isn't mentioned here.

He plays blues on the blues harmonica and his name isn't Rick, Rod or Kim.

Pierre is a really good player. A lot of great singers and musicians have gone through Mississippi Heat. Really great band with a solid sound. Twenty years does fly by.

Ricky - I saw your comment about Robert Covington in your review. Robert was one of the most soulful and under appreciated singers ever. I never heard that cassette. If you don't have his CD on Evidence, it's quite good and worth owning.

Mississipi Heat and Pierre have been mentioned in quite a few of the forum topics....at least 7 on my count.......and many others that are not Rick Rod or Kim,or Walter...Over the years I have found many new (to me) harp players that I now have on my playlist, on this forum.

Definitely worthy of more attention on a blues harp forum. Thanks to JTTirty for a good blog post and bringing a new record with them to my attention. I´m not too wild about the type of blues Miss. Heat is playing but I don´t think there are many harmonica players out there that equal Pierre Laqocque when it comes to melodic ideas and this distinct, trumpet-like tone. (Fankly I much prefer listening to him than either Rick, Rod or Kim.)
And I´m pretty sure it is L-A-cocque.

Many thanks Martin for catching my typo with misspelling Lacocque. I went back and edited my blog post. When I wrote the post, I thought I was being careful with getting his spelling correct. Wrong. I'm horrible at catching typos.

I saw Mississippi Heat at Chan's in Woonsocket Rhode Island after his New Hampshire gig a couple of weeks ago. I got to meet Pierre. He's a very nice guy and willing to share information on his rig and harp.I enjoyed his show very much as did everyone in the audience. He is a great player and I never had heard of him until I went to this show. If you have a chance to see him in your area, i would highly recommend it. The lead singer of of the band Inetta Visor was extraordinary. Great passion and energy!

Also, Gary of sonny junior amps was there and gave a great fox chase solo on Sonny Boy Terry tune.
