bump -this is to compliment Mojokane's 'eye candy' thread. There are so many nice collections and pictures here - I thought we might try and keep this thread alive.

fyi - the Sano from my collection has been sold, the Gibson GA-6 has been completely rewired (with help from Mark B. - aka 5F6H) , the blackface deluxe has been biased colder and became a surprisingly good harp amp now. Bassman RI despite being the only modern printed circuit board amp in the group - is my fave - the one I'd take to the desert island (along with the generator) . I put in two ceramic speakers to compliment the ugh - green Jensen alnico ri's, One Eminence lil buddy as per Rick's recomendation, one old Yamaha 10" I had around. The blend is really nice now - though the amp is heavier.

I came THIS CLOSE to buying this old Marvel amp the other day. A 5-watt Champ clone from the 50s. Original two-prong plug, it sounded cool when a guitar player tried it but it smelled like it was about to burst into flame. $59.00. I may go back and get it...

The only amp I'll ever need, a modded VHT 6.
I still have my old Danelectro Nifty Fifty, we miced it thru the P.A.
Amps I've owned: Blues Deluxe, Blues Deville, Blues Junior, Bassman RI, Silvertone, and numerous others, my son is a guitar player, so they seem to disappear.

It started with Rick Davis "modest" collection of amps ...
Is there some kind of support group for you people (ABA: Amp Buyers Anonymous?) to release the pressure from time to time.
I own one Roland Mobile and one RP 150 and one good microphone: goes a long way.

I'll update my own post in this.

My Vypyr is gone because I traded it for this Alamo 2566 Fury 1X15 combo.

And I'll probably never part with my 'Zoo Model Two. In fact, I pushed her to new boundaries last night at an open jam. Volume at 8, tone at 3, and mic v/c at about 70%. She had distortion coming outta her like I'd never heard before!

AND, we're up to 12 'Zoo owners in this thread by my count. :-)

I'm new to game so all I rock is a Fender Vibro Champ XD (the new one with the solid state and tubes combination). It gets the job done. I think the brightest feature of this little Champ is the speaker. The speaker, when cranked, delivers. As for the rest, could be better. At this price per say, I don't know.

Yeah, I love the things. But, I'm trying to cut down a little, not that my collection is a patch on some of these. I wish!
My 78 Princeton Reverb has come up really well with the Weber 10A125-O John sent me. If I could only keep one amp of those I currently own, that's the one.
My HotRod DeVille has been doing the job on stage and even though I've skipped that band I guess I'll hang on to the amp. There aren't many 410 harp amps in this part of the world and its a long way to ship.
I guess I'll get around to finishing that old Filmosound sometime. It has potential but its technically challenging. I had Barry build a new board for it, to shape the eq. Runs off the filament power supply, and also manages the line out and fx loop. Thing sounded ok before on full bass boost but the new circuit gives a wider range. It sounded great in the lounge through a 410 bass cab, but I dunno if it'll stand up to gigs. I gather those old preamp tubes went out of favour for a reason.
I've added a couple since the photos on page 1. A couple of Chinese 5watt things, Epi Vj combo and a Legacy Valve Head. The Legacy is like a good harp amp stock, through that twin 8" cab I built it sounds pretty ok I think. That's it on the "Regular Mother" song I posted a couple weeks back. No effects on that cut, just a CM mic into that amp and box. A bit too dirty I think now I hear the mix, but it was a rush job so too bad.
I'll probably keep the Legacy. I was gonna mod the Epi, but since I found the Legacy the Epi seems redundant. i think I'll sell it as is.
I think I'll keep my VibroChamp XD too. An underrated bit of kit IMHO. Versatile and convenient and reliable. I'd love to hear it through a 10", I think it's inherently better sounding than the SuperChamp XD. It has a 12ax7 driver, whereas the 12ax7 in the SuperChamp XD is a phase inverter. It's been a while since I checked them out but iirc the VCXD is single ended, SCXD is push pull. Really, all the SCXD has in its favour is that 10" speaker. I've played my VCXD through the twin 8 box (weber 8a100) and its PDG.
Its hardly a great collection of classic amps I have, but they cover the bases I've needed covered.
The place we used to practice is owned by a collector. Heaps of great old Aussie stuff from the 60s and 70s out there. Might see if I can get some pix of that gear over the break.

6j7 and 6sl7 iirc. Can't remember which is the PI. It's a 2 x 6V6 power amp. It's been a while since I looked at it. There's some photos on page 1, I think the metal 6j7 is on display. I've heard there were big probs with micro phonics but I don't doubt the cost saving point.
This is a Brit version of the bell and Howells 179 or 159 I think. Gaumont-Bell&Howell Model 601. About 14w. We gutted the photo-sensitive circuit out of it so what you see is less cluttered. The big can caps that came out were all stamped July 1948. Sounds great but just some work to do to finish it...

Happy Holidays
Just saw all the above amps...There is some cool gear here dear. Woah! Incredible!
Here's another one...and a bump!
For those who may not have seen mine, "Eye Candy", in another thread...I'm pasting it up again....nothing new.
It's comforting to know there are like minded cats who appreciate the work that goes into a nice collection of amps. Those are unbelievable collections.
I've been at it for about 10 years.
I'm proud of it and very happy with what you see.
Mojokanes Amp Collection 2012
As you can see, the Princeton, Bassman, Model One, are stock, in decent shape, and get used regularly. The newer projects are interchangeable. Make it easy to achieve a variety of tones, and volume.
Nice having several rigs handy, incase of failure/breakdowns..
For me, the Kalamazoo Model One started it all.
I love them so much, I keep a stock Model One handy for quaint duets, and super small venues.
It smolders with great tone.
Amazingly rich, the EL84's, the Rola 12" smooth cone, and a fat sounding CM or CR, or a Brush crystal, and you're set.
Next level for me, was the Admiral Tweed (2)El84 head.(on the Bassman).
That was a 14 watt "next level". Good with a 12", 2X12's, or 2X10's, too. All round great harp amp.
The "Red Head" Philco, (2) 6L6's, is perfect for the 4X10 Cedar Cab. Real warm, with Rola alnico 10's (big magnets), and lightweight cab..I removed the front white panel, and put a chicken wire instead.
Runs cooler, and highlites the glowing tubes nicely. The Philco amp is badass, man! Just like a Bassman, one third the weight. I like it now more then the Kalamazoo....or Admiral..shhhhhhhhhhh! don't tell them.
The Silver Jubilee head cab, on the table, is a rare little Sano "Sanoette", with (1)El84 (much like a Kalamazoo Model One).
And a "Red Pig" Pignose 30/60 head cab on top. Great with a ceramic 12. Badass tone for solid state...
so I'm covered for now. Have a great time this holiday season. See you next year!
Looks like we're still here...
On the flip side...
THAT"S IT NOW>>>>NO MORE!! I am going broke! It's a real habit people.
Please! don't get started down this road.
Just go out and buy one. You could spend your time more wisely practicing how to play.

Your amps take up most of the kitchen? My conclusion- you are single or have the most tolerant wife in North America.

I'm not an amp collector, but I have totally enjoyed all the pictures of everyone's amps. I can see, like anything else such as older model autos, or books, or whatever, that these creations have their own intrinsic value.

Plus, I really enjoy great tone when I hear it, and I have learned just how much a part of the tone package the delivery system is. Having used p.a.s, from moderate quality to excellent, and cheap ss amps, I'm now very happy to be using an Ultimate 57 mic with the Bulletizer, and a Model II Kalamazoo, from Greg Huemann. Even though I'm not currently playing much blues, I feel ready for a blues gig should one arise. I love the good quality pa clarity, but I love the sonic character of this nice little tube amp more. I use a Danelectro reverb/delay pedal, as well.

I play all small venues in musical groups that are really playing at a conversation level volume, so I don't need anything more powerful than the 'Zoo.

JD, looks like my Filmo uses the 6j7 as the preamp. The 6sl7 is just a PI. I think there is a designation "1620" (from memory) of the 6J7 which is low noise. I probably should start collecting if I'm to ever get this thing in use.

I have a 1970 Fender Princeton Reverb and I'm not happy with it. I can't get...that sound! You know, that sound? That worn out shoe in the mud in the Mississippi Delta sound...That smoke-filled back room of a bourbon-soaked bar sound. Of all these amps, how do I get that sound?
SuperBee

Pauly, I dunno. I have heard a few SF PRs. They are pretty much the same right through, in terms of electronic design. Probably some variation in components and layout.
Mine is a '78 and I'm loving it right now. If anything, these later years seem to be less well regarded, but I dunno why really.
What works for me is to put bass on 10, treble on 1, for starters. I don't like the reverb much. And the tremolo I leave off also. Then just twist that volume knob until you find the sweet spot.
The thing that made a big improvement to mind was to change the speaker. I put a Weber 10A125-O into it, and that sounds great. You can mess around with which input you plug into too. I plug into number 1 these days.
The other factor could be your mic. I use CM bullets, I think crystals don't sound so good with this amp, but I only have 1.
But...the sound you like is in your mind. I never heard the sound you describe above, I can only tell you about mine and how I like it. The way you play has quite a bit to do with it too of course.
Inherently though, it should be a really cool amp. I've heard people diss them before though. Hvyj reckoned his sucked compared to the reissue, of which he was a big fan. I dunno, must have been something wrong with his unit I reckon; they are ballsy little amps
Oh yeah I guess it may be the bias. But I'd be looking at the speaker first I think.

My amp herd has changed since I started this thread. Delete the Masco ME-18 and add a 1964 Marvel tube amp.

So... 1993 Bassman RI, Mission Chicago 32-20, 1970 Fender Champ, and the Marvel amp.

Edited to add: Oh yeah, I have that EH 44 Magnum pedal amp too.

Some seriously nice gear here! :)

Here's my short list:
1959 Supro 1606, with a 12AY7 preamp tube, grounded cord for safety, bright cap snipped, oval speaker replaced with a Weber Sig 10 Alnico.

Stock Peavey Valve Junior Combo, with 12AT7 preamp tube.

Lone Wolf 6L6SE (still on the bench), it'll use the 6L6 and a 12AX7 (as per design), I've got a Weber Sig 10 Alnico to try with it. Might build the cab so it will take a 12 somewhere down the road.

For mics - Superlux, Shaker dynamic, Astatic JT30 with vintage Sure CM element, cheap karaoke vocal mic (hi-z), EV 664 and an EV 641.

I've been playing harp a long time but never got into amps. I have a Berringer amp that I used twice. Thing is when I'm home I don't use an amp. When I sit in with bands around Chicago I use the house PA or I plug into someone else's amp.

@BikerG

Nothing wrong with that man. Whatever works for you to get you the sound you want. I know of a lot of players who go straight into the PA. They usually have some kind of preamping rig in front of it, like a Lone Wolf or Digitech pedal, but it still sounds good. If I ever get the preamp rig I'm jonesing for, I'll more than likely just use the PA in the future.

Thanks so much for the helps guys!! First amp is my Premier 120, this is one magical amp. In a bigger gig you can literally crank it all the way and it just gets better and better. It is the only amp I have had that just nails Big Walter tone to the wall. Next is the Masco MAP120 and the Noble. Both incredible amps. I started as a Robert Lockwood Jr wannabe but soon couldnt find harp to play the right stuff so I took up harp and here I am I am a blues nazi and My mind is stuck on just basically old stuff, someday I may grown out of it but for now beat up old amps , mics and guitars for me. I hope to have a fun time a this forum that I have heard a lot about!!
