Footage from Ataturk's recent gig in Switzerland. Our Whips and Armor Shine! as Manowar once put it.

First song is a modern viking metal classic "Ragnar". More peaceful, Finnish folk-music influenced stuff starts at 2:20.

The songs begin abruptly, but you get the idea.

@J-Sin: Are you going directly through the PA here?

Interesting combo of musical styles. I really like the folk tune -- does it have name? It rings kind of familiar, but that can be because I´m a Swede.

Guess the name "Ataturk" could cause some controversy among nationalistic Turks ...?

What is the bond between Ataturk and vikings ?

Can't listen to it right now, but I'm curious. I like Manowar !

@Moon Cat: We live in Finland! But if you want a great gig in Switzerland, contact Blues Rules Festival.

@Martin: Yep, my pedals go straigth to PA. The folk tune is our original, but many people (including me) feel like they've heard it before. There must be dozens of melodies similar to this in Scandinavian folk music.

When we began playing, our music was a mixture of Anatolian music and blues. For some reason we liked the sound of the word ATATURK, and we also liked how the political figure looked in portraits. Atatürk also wanted to merge elements from Eastern and Western culture, if you want to look at it that way.

According to the comments we get, 95% of Turks seem to love the name and feel honoured that we use it. We still play the Turkish lute, but otherwise there's no real connection to Anatolian music anymore. We've been thinking about changing the name. But I also like the idea of playing under the same name to show how much our material and influences can change over time.

Thanks J-Sin, a pity we lost Finland all those years ago!
Of course I see your point w/ Mustafa Kemal, a great syntheziser of East and West. (Also, like us Swedes and Finns, he liked his drink ...)

I know it´s a bit of a bore, but I you recollect what your setup was in that video I´d sure be interested. I sometimes strive for that softer, more rounded sound w/ certain material.
cheers,
Martin

How many pairs of red leather pants do you guys have!

Mooncat, that only helps you... what we need instead is to get these guys on tour here in the states! (Although I suppose we could organize a forum field trip...)

It's strange, I've only got maybe a dozen musicians I follow on YouTube, but I've got two bands from Scandinavia and two musicians out of Malaysia.

By the way J-Sin, I've got a friend who absolutely loves your last video! I showed it to him when I had some friends over and he made me send him the link. I think he described it as 'epic awesomeness'. :)

@Martin: In these songs I believe I only used Holy Grail Nano and Harp Attack. With my Ultimate 545 mic. I also use POG and a looper with some material. I plug all of that into a DI-box. It works fine, although sometimes the signal gets too hot. I still don't know how to solve that.

@nacoran: I just destroyed my second pair of those pants at a gig. They just broke into smitherines. The problem is they don't sell those anymore. So for the next one we'll have to reconsider our look.

Glad you & your friends like it. Stay tuned, new album comes out in September!

They've got to make them somewhere!

Okay, I've learned my lesson... don't Google mens red leather pants unless you mean it!
