I'm really getting into the whole amped harp sound and I thought that it might be fun to start a little discussion about pedals. Who uses what? What brand? Any cool combinations? How's the board set up? How's it work with the rig(mic and amp)? Anything else related feel free to share. I thought it might be nice to fire up a conversation like this on a harp forum because most all pedals are made for guitar and it's good to hear from other harpers what is what.

Kinder Anti Feedback Box, into a BBE Opto stomp (Optical Compressor),into a BBE Chorus (Mind Bender) , into Eclecro harmonix Micro Pog,into a Maxon Auto Filter (auto Wah) into a BBE Two Timer (Analog Delay), into a BBE Sonic Maximizer.
I love pedals most of these are actually FOR my tone and for getting a tone that sounds full and loud like the amp was cranked at any volume including low of course. They obviously serve other purposes too like controling the tone.dynamics, clarity and feed back at high volume as well. The chorus,Auto wah and pog are basically for fun! I Love BBE and the Opto Stomp,Delay, and Sonic maximizer stay on all night and I depend upon them now pretty heavy. Great subject tyler. J
I use a Tech 21 Sansamp Bass driver DI, It delivers plenty of drive and that low end crunch even when it is through a PA system. It does have a tendicy to feed back though. Any cheap fixes for that? Being that I got it for nothing, it was in a trunk of a car in a junk yard, I'm not complaining. I looked it up on line and they go for 180. to 200. US dollars.
Best CHEAP delay pedal that you are going to get is the danelectro FAB delay. It costs all of $15! The sound and functionality can be improved greatly by to simple modifications (if you are handy at that sort of thing), which can be seen by going to me YouTube channel (link is in my signature) and looking through my videos for "FAB delay modified for Harmonica". I also use a danelectro "Fish & Chips" 7 band equalizer that lets me roll off some of the high frequencies and shape the low and mids to get the best tone out of my various mics. It seems to also cut back pretty drastically on feedback (by cutting the high frequencies that are usually responsible for creating feedback in the first place). Another great thing about the Fish & Chips is that is has a samll clean boost with it's own master volume control that lets you adjust the volume of any mic without it's own volume control. The boost lets you crank the signal of any mic to the level of a "bullet"-type mic (crystal or ceramic element) and overdrive the preamp section of your amp for the same type of overdrive! It costs about $20-25 depending where you get it. I ordered both pedals off of Amazon.... ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"
Wow! Way cool clip there, Jason. I've seen it before and have been amazed at the sounds being processed and bounced around that room. Got an entire orchestra effect going. By the way, and I've mentioned this in another thread, Randy over at www.lwharpamps.com is producing some really nice pedals dedicated to us harp guys. Jason, you might check out his octave pedal and see what you can get out of it. Anyway--
Hey folks. I just picked up BBE Two Timer pedal. Can anyone give me a good start point on the settings to get a quick slap back followed by a decent sounding delay. I won't have a lot of time to dial it in before we play. Also, I have a Moor Ana Echo pedal I'd like to use with it. Does it make a whole lot of difference if I put the echo pedal before or after the 2 timer?
I love/use an old MIJ Arion SAD-1. Grey or black case, it does not matter contrary to internet lore. This pedal is very transparent, noise free and has mono/stereo output. I have three of them! The weak point is the input jack, which is rebuildable, but considering they were made in the mid 80's. Pretty good. Only pedal I use...BN
IN ORDER TO AMP- Lone Wolf Blues Harp Tone-Boss RV5 digital reverb- BOSS blues driver- EHX Pitchfork-DITTO looper2x pedal- BBE optic stomp- Thinking of getting a cry baby pedal- not sure yet- would put that one first in line up
Only have the need for one pedal. A delay made by Memphis Mini which I reviewed on this forum back on May 4,2015. There's a new You Tube on the website now and it does a pretty goo job of describing the pedal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_LdXD_ekqQ ----------
RIG 1: 545 Ultimate>EH MicroPOG w/Analogman trubypass mod>Hammond Leslie G pedal>TC Electronics Vortex Flanger>Xotic EP Booster>TC Electronics Flashback Delay>Fender Super Reverb RI 4x10
RIG 2: 545 Ultimate>Digitech Luxe>Keeley Compressor Pro>Mooer Ensemble King>Xotic EP Booster>MXR Carbon Copy Delay>Peavey Delta Blues 1x15
For loud gigs I'll add a Squeal Killer anti feedback box between the mic and the pedal board, but only when necessary. Generally speaking, the EP Booster and the delay stay on all the time.

What is this, like a sport to see who can find the oldest thread to revive? 2009? Seriously? I have 3 pedals, all LW. Delay, reverb, octave. I've never used the reverb on a gig. I don't really care for it. Compared to any spring I've used its just harsh imho. I even prefer the dsp effect on my hybrid fender. The delay did all I wanted. In terms of sound fx, I only ever use that or reverb if the amp has reverb. I keep the LW octave not for the sound but because it will actually allow me to get a little more volume from an amp, pre feedback. I've played with a few others. LW harp break was no use to me, Harp Shield I found worse than useless in the circumstance where the band was loud enough that I had feedback problems trying to keep up. And a boss flanger pedal someone allowed me to borrow. I simply didn't care for that. Anyway, none of that is why the thread was revived. Fellow has a question about connecting a delay pedal and an echo pedal, which seems like 2 delays to me but I'm sure I've just demonstrated I'm not really the person to give advice about pedals. Except to say I'd probably put a delay at the end closest to the amp usually

I use exactly NONE of the pedals I mentioned in my original 2009 post. Still have 'em, but I switched from discrete pedals to a modeling pedal several years back. I use the Zoom G3, and literally have dozens of different effects I use on there. Typically, I have a noise gate first > EQ > Modulation of some kind > Another Modulation of some kind > Delay > Reverb. Noisegate, EQ, and Reverb stay on pretty much all the time. Typically, modulation would be chorus or octave, but also some weird synth stuff too. I like a giant-sounding delay, and will kick that on for solos.
The only other pedal I have in my chain is the Vox 'Lil looper. I combine various effects patches on the G3 to lay down different layers in the loop. ----------
Superbee, same here. Harp Break seems to be no use to me. I love the Octave but don't use the effect and I like delay if the band isn't stupid loud. That's all I use -or straight in.
I concur with super bee. Tried heaps of pedals and the only one I think I couldn't do without is delay. LW Harp octave definitely helps cut through the mix when band is loud. I don't mind the harp break, but find I don't need it on my 5W amp and can only use it when I'm not chasing volume on my big amp (feedback prone). ---------- Lucky Lester
