Several months ago, there was a thread (couldn't find it now for the life of me) pertaining to Adam's recommendations on starter amps. Originally, he had recommended the Gretsch G5222, but it wound up being discontinued for a time, so he amended it to the similar Fender Champion 600. I just discovered that it is still available, though not through the most popular online dealers out there. A Google search on it showed a few backroad stores that still sell it at Gretsch's MSRP. Just in case anyone was yearning for one...

The Fender Champion 600 is one of the few things ever to violate my "if it looks cool it must sound cool" rule. I had heard various criticisms of the amp since they came out, but still wanted to try one because...it looked cool. I picked one up for $80 bucks of a Craigslist. It was ok for guitar, but did excel at getting a great Johnny Otis-era Pete Lewis tone. It was pretty gainy and midrangey for harp. After trying the basic recommended speaker and tube swaps it was nominally better and I sold it. The Gretsch is the same amp with different cosmetics.

I just bought a Fender Champion 600 on Wednesday from somebody on Craigslist for $100. I personally think it sounds awesome when coupled with a digital delay.

I was planning on shooting a little footage of me using it. I'll post here when it's done.

After using it for a few hours, I somewhat agree with you Rhartt. It is kind of a one trick pony amp, but it does a good job at what it does.

I stumbled across one at a pawn shop a couple of months ago for 35 bucks. I didn't know anything about it, but it looked real clean and seemed to be what I was looking for so I picked it up. It's my first amp but I've been very happy with it. It's neat to see it get a little recognition.
