I rarely play or record anything amplified, so I need some help from my friends here that do.

I know this isn't the ideal combination, but all I have to work with is a stock Fender Blues Junior amp and a Hohner Blues Blaster mic. (Used to have a Green Bullet but lost it.) Any suggestions on where to start with the amp settings? Just looking for a good starting place and then I can use my ears to tweak it to my own taste. I'm recording a song with this mic and amp, and though it sounds good to me, my ears aren't as trained as someone who plays amplified on a regular basis.

I'm micing the amp and capturing that signal, plus the clean signal from the mic. This way, once recorded, I'll still have the option to retrieve the clean signal and re-amp it if necessary.

go to billmaudio.com

Mr. Bill has a whole repertoire of simple mods for the BJr.

The stock BJr itself is a technically neutral masterpiece, and a very tweakable circuit.

My own BJr contains almost all billmaudio's mods and I LOVE IT. I can set it up anywhere from icy crystal highs to river bottom bass to both to stone breaking crunch.

If you're not interested in making mods and don't want to pay Bill to do them, Mr. Kingley's advice is great.

You have a good amp, don't waste it.

Thanks very much to both of you! Kingley's link did help, and I was able to spend several hours with the engineer here in the studio making further tweaks. There's also a lot you can do with the software plug-ins and EQ to get things sounding great. We found a sound we both liked, so THANKS again for your help!

I'd love to make some of the mods to the amp later on. I just don't play enough amplified to justify doing it anytime soon though.
