Anybody have any thoughts on using the Peavy Delta Blues 115 for Blues harp ?
If so any suggested mods, etc?

I think there may be previous threads on this topic. I've played the Delta Blues 115 and I liked it okay, but that was a couple years ago. The amp might be a bit high-gain when you get it, so a preamp tube swap may be in order to calm it down.

The Peavey "Classic" series amps are driven by EL84 tubes, which are loved by guitar players because of their treble "chime." It can induce feedback, which is why no custom harp amps builders I can think of make an amp using EL84 tubes. These amps CAN sound good for harp, depending upon your tastes, but they are not ideal.

If you can get a good deal on a Peavey Delta Blues 115 and you like to tinker with amps, I'd say go for it.

I dunno bharper. I've played through both a Delta Blues 115 and a 210. I loved them both and didn't find either one too gainy. And they use 12AX7's for their preamp, I dunno of any other tube that'd be a good application for that. Maybe a 12AU7 (Greg, Mark)?

Hawkeye, I don't know that I'd go all the way down to a 12AU7 in this case; you'd really lose a lot of punch and amplitude. I'd first try a 5751 in V1, the socket closest to where you plug in your cable. The 5751 is interchangeable with the 12AX7 but has 70 percent of the gain. To my ear they warm up the tone in many amps.

There are a number of harp amps that use EL84 power tubes. Kalamazoos, Gibson GA-5, Pro Jr, Epiphone Valve Jr., to name just a few. I personally prefer a 6V6 amp but for those who like the el84, there are many choices.

MJ, as I said, "no custom harp amps builders" make an amp using EL84 tubes. There is a good reason for that.

The amps you mentioned are not "harp amps." They are small guitar amps that can be made to sound okay when used as harp amps.

I'm with you on the preference for 6V6 amps over EL84 amps. MUCH better natural tone...

I'm a character of mixed loyalties when it comes between 6V6 and EL84. My 'Zoo and the Delta Blues' that I love so much use EL84s. But one of the best amps I ever blew through was an old Traynor 410 and it used 6V6's. And now VHT has the adapters to let you interchange the two...it's difficult to decide at times.
