Yeah, that is an electrifying performance. I have yet to introduce that album to anyone who didn't wind up loving it. They had a very strong sound.

hearing King King changed my whole outlook on what a harp could do and what was possible for a singer/harpman up front. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene
I love this album i have it in my laptop and am disecting it with The Amazing Slow Downer,I was shown it by a fellow harp player who said studying it took his playing to a whole new level cos it's packed full of great harp phrases that are very doable for the intermediate player, and i have to agree the songs are great the lyrics are great and Lester is the man. The only thing that i would change is the vocal quality cos it sounds like he is singing through his Harp mic which is fine now and then for affect, but a bit grating over a full album.
He's also done an album "13 featuring Lester Butler". There's also a bootleg around with Jagger on vocals and Butler in harp. They tackle a number of blues classics. ---------- Skinny Dog
Spider - I just got the DVD a couple months ago from an outfit in the netherlands it was I believe. It cost me 31,71 EUR including shipping to the US (Blues DVD. NL is the name of the company that sells this title). I found their website to be a bit of a challenge seeing as I don't speak their lingo. Maybe I missed something that you can click on to get the english translation.
Because I had an amplifier malfunction while watching this DVD I can't really give my final, complete impression ( only saw it once since my stereo went down ) but I believe that it was a good buy for me. If I remember correctly the audio quality is somewhat faulted but I found it to be more than just tolerable, meaning that if you have some nice Hi Fi to hear it on you are deffinetlly going to notice shortcomings and yet I was able to turn it up very loud and enjoy it as it was.
As for the performance - I think I'm remembring that it was pretty good overall with maybe a few flat spots or weaknesses here and there. I'm guessing that most people who like the CDs would not be disappointed with this DVD.

Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see Lester live but I'm told that he wasn't singing through the harp mic. That is simply his voice. Check out his videos on Youtube. That's just the way he sounds even through a regular vocal mic. I don't want to sound like that but I think it fits him, his style and the dark nature of his music perfectly. I think it's badass!
