Anyone any idea's?...what harp the late great Lee Brilleaux played?

As he was a big fan of Howlin Wolf I'm guessing a Marine Band?...but I'd be interested to know for definite.

Really?

Ok, great, thanks for that.

Just watched "Oil City Confidential"...

...and the question sprang to mind.

@ Oisin

Ive just noticed that you live in Leigh, and area that I know pretty well myself, though I live in South-East London.

Did you know Lee...or ever meet him?

I was down Canvey only last weekend walking along past the Labworth.

Very bracing.

Never walked to the end of the Occidental jetty though.

Thats something I'd like to do some day.

I'm a huge fan Selkent but I grew up in Northern Ireland so I never got to meet him. They have a Dr Feelgood night in the Oysterfleet Hotel every year in Canvey and that get's rammed.
Dr Feelgood are still on the go albeit with a different line-up with none of the original members.
If you liked Oil City Confidential you might also like a book by Will Birch called No Sleep till Canvey which is all about the Pub Rock scene in London and Essex during the sevnties and includes info on Dr Feelgood.
Lee wasn't the best harp player in the world but he he got his point across very well!!

Oh yeh, absolutely.

The Feelgoods WERE all about "feel" and "just doing it", which is what I loved about them, and Lee was certainly about that with his harping.

I remember seeing them for the first time back in about 75, and couldnt believe what I was seeing, it was so different to everythihg else at the time.

And as I played a Telecaster too...that was it for me!

Wilko was THE man!

Theres some great clips of them on You Tube doing "She Does It Right", "Boom Boom" and "Route 66", back in their heyday on some northern T.V show.

Thanks for the heads up about the book, I will certainly look out for it on Evil Bay and Amazon.

As you grew up in N.I and were into that kind of music then I guess maybe Stiff Little Fingers were your band of choice to go and see back then?

What at Westcliff Pavillion I suppose?

They have had some really good bands there over the years.

Peter Green was playing there a few years back when he came out of hibernation.

I know theyve also had Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman there recently, though thats not my thing at all.

As for all those bands you mentioned...I was there!

Used to go to the Marquee, Rock Garden, 100 Club, all those places...back in about 76...saw the Pistols, Damned, Clash, X-Ray Spex, Buzzcocks, Slaughter and the Dogs.......and loads of others....aaaahhh..those were the days!
