I stumbled upon this recently and thought I would share... This video is of Pokey LaFarge and old-timey kind of fella who's signed to Jack White's label. AND of he has his very own harmonica player, ryan koenig... anyone know/hear of this guy? He sounds pretty good.

Just heard them on public radio from a show recorded at a local club in Harrisburg, Pa. Wish I had known about them before the show, but will surely keep tabs on them in the future. Their style is great, and Ryan plays some wonderful harp. Kind of a country swing style. It would be great to have him join the forum, and for Adam to give his input on this style of playing.

I've seen them live twice, first in a small quiet coffee house setting and later in a club. Fantastic show both times. Didn't care for the club setting though, wanted to hear the band, not everyone talking, laughing and basically socializing.

Pokey Lafarge (I think an homage to Peter Lafarge, singer-songwriter from the 1960's New York folk scene) is my favorite new band. Sterling musicianship all around, with a fresh take on a vintage sound. Check 'em out on Youtube. I agree with Garlic, Ryan lays down some fine harp in a style all his own (no hand effects, for example.) Pokey is a real student of that vintage music that inspires him, plus he is a fine entertainer and an excellent guitarist.

Thanks,

Michelle

He also plays in the Rum Drum Ramblers, which play a similar sound, maybe a little rougher round the edges

They have at least one album old - Mean Scene - which I'd recommend if you like Pokey Lafarge

This is one of my favorites from ol Pokey Lafarge. Mr Koenig gets on it pretty good too.
