At the moment I'm back to spending a good part of my practice time on 3rd position. That's mostly working the scale from bottom (w/bends) to top. Not just up and down, but varying combinations of notes. I could use some suggestions for scale practice. Thanks.

Hummel suggested Cotton's 'blues keep falling' as a place to start with 3rd.
I'll have to listen back the conversation I recorded with him.
But probably some variation on the old '3 up 1 back' would be cool.
Do you want diatonic or pentatonic?
You could go 1 +2 -2', +2 2' 2, 2' 2 3", 2(or +3) 3" 3, 3" 3 +4, 3 +4 4, and then work back starting from 4 draw, maybe turnaround at the low end using 1 blow also. I mean, you could start from 1 blow for that matter, making the forstvtriplet +1 1 +2.
And no need to stop at 4 draw and go back, you could continue up.
So that would be like a diatonic major approach
You could do a similar thing for a pentatonic minor, using +1 1 2"1, 2" 2 2" 2, 3" 2 3" +4, working up to 8 draw maybe but I'd have to think how to resolve it around the roots/octaves.
But you know, you can pretty much just work out your own patterns in those kind of principles and the practice them. You want to get the bookends in place though I think...
Disclaimer: I shouldn't be telling anyone how to play 3rd.

Thanks. I'll keep plugging away at it.
