Gigs have been scarce. Our next is booked at the end of August.

This will mark 1 year since our 1st gig!

Probably will play it as one longish set. Ostensibly it's a 90 minute spot but there'll be some setup time as it's a festival stage.

this is the proposed set. A couple will probably be cut from this as I expect we'll not get through 23. I wouldn't be surprised to play only 18 or so.

Looks like a nice set list.
I have been a little surprised how many do "Good morning little school girl".

I know the older I get the more creepy it would get singing about little school girls...
I dunno know...what do you think ?
just wondering..

Thanks for raising that.
When we play it the guys insist we can't leave it out.

Yes, there is one potentially troublesome verse.

Well you know, I'm not actually singing about me talking to schoolgirls.
I introduce the song, saying how it's 80 years old.
Sometimes I say this song reminds me of my parents' courtship.
My mum was 16 years + 1 day when she married my then 21 year old father; they'd clearly known each other a while by that stage. That would be frowned on these days I think.

I imagine this makes the point the song is not about me, it's quite old, it may give pause for thought about how things change, it introduces the idea that these songs represent stories and one can find personal meanings in them which take them beyond mere museum pieces or 'cover versions', but the personal meaning doesn't have to be literal.

I'm singing a song about a young fellow cracking on to a younger woman.

In the same way when I sing Ice Cream Man, where a young man sees a girl who looks really hot, and offers to give her something, I'm not really cracking on to anyone or offering my ice cream cone.

I once was a schoolboy. I can remember what it was like to be young, and I can remember how it felt to realise I was young no longer.

To me that is what the song is really about, but perhaps that is a little too complex to relate from the stage.

I try not to sing 'I'll buy a shotgun and shoot it at you' (just your fool) But people say I'm wrong to avoid that expression too. Cyndi Lauper didn't avoid that one iirc.

A lot of nice songs on your list. I bet you have a great time of it.
There has only been a time or two when someone requested we not do a particular song..much to our surprise one was a children's song..we just had never translated it..as kids we always sang it without ever knowing what the words meant.
There is a song or two that we like without their lyrics but not so much with the lyrics when we do them.
Nice to hear you talk it over with the band and try to give a bit history with it.
Some will always say yes and some will say no..just the way it goes with songs it seems.

course I'm here in the states, I can't refer to the "shotgun and shoot it at you" lyric with out offending somebody one way or the other so I best not touch that one...
Good Luck with the show !

That's a solid set list. Happy Birthday!

My wife calls "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" the "paedophile song." The (grown up) ladies seem to like it though. I also have a few qualms about Boom Boom (Out go the Lights) although the ladies seem to like this too. Maybe just listening to the groove and not the lyrics.

Cheers! Groove is where it's at. There's nothing to deep to ponder in most of these lyrics, mostly it's about moving.
1 year is quite significant I think. the band is still together and getting stronger. I'm definitely learning a lot here. maybe the most productive 12 months in terms of harp playing that I've had. The only other period like this was when I was taking lessons
