Hello,

I just scored a Shure Commando with an IMT on fleabay.

All is good except for a slight buzz when I touch the grill. It sounds very similar to an unplugged guitar cable.

The mic is still very useable but it would be better if it didn't buzz.

Can someone give me an idiot's picture of what is happening and how I might fix it.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Do you mean mains hum? Could be many things, one to consider is an earth loop. What is your chain of stuff? What's plugged into what - do you have pedals and are they powered by battery or power supply?

Pretty simple for trying out this mic:

Mic - IMT - Amp

The amp is a Peavey Royal 8 with Alnico mods. Works fine with Superlux 112.
When I can find mine I will swap out the IMT

It's a little quieter than the buzz you get with a guitar lead not plugged into the guitar. Sound even changes when I touch the grille.

I suppose the first thing to check is that all the internal wires are hooked up and not damaged. I searched for a diagram and found this https://www.manualslib.com/manual/997268/Shure-Commando-415.html which says that some models are dual-impedance. Is yours one of those? If so that would be nice, you could do away with the IMT. And it might solve the buzz at the same time!
