this is one of the sad things about this forum. really handy things eventually disappear and the search function is kinda basic.

i wanted to check if that Red Devils 'king king' album was on the list.
it should be i think. its 'simple' blues harp done very well.
i could probably just study the 12 tracks on the album and apply the lessons for the rest of my time. so many effective licks which are not complex in themselves but are used very effectively with great timing, demonstrate how effective repetition can be (although occasionally over used here imho, i think that's also of value).
i like that its a live record too,

It's not on there. But your right it should be. That is a great one. Can't believe the thread disappeared.

I'm going to have to study that album a bit more indepth.

the thread is no doubt still here but i didnt see it. eyes get a bit strange scanning page after page.

yeah i just got that CD yesterday and spun it at work. i really wanted to hear 'wish you would' because its in my repertoire.

heres the story; however long ago it was, i bought Billy Boy Arnold's album 'back where i belong', which was released in 1993.

on that record, Lester Butler plays harp on 'shake your hips'.

i flat-out (try to) copy what LB plays on that record, and its been very useful for me.

also on that record is 'I wish you would', on which the harp credited to Billy Boy Arnold, but its unlike all the other records he'd previously made of that song. i also copy the playing from this record. i am a copycat.

then i hear Lester Butler play the song and it seems to me that either it is actually LB playing it on the BBA record, or in fact BBA is doing it Lester's way on the record. i actually think this seems more likely, just based on the tone on the record, but they are Lester's licks. So Billy is also a copycat

thats how it seems to me. 'king king' was released in 92, 'Back where i belong' in 93. i haven't found an earlier recording of BBA playing those licks on I Wish You Would. every earlier record ive found, he is doing pretty similiar to the original he made with Bo Diddley.

Man ... I can hear the enthusiasm in your typing . . Lol. Makes me want to find these tracks and pick em apart.

I need more actual songs in my repertoire. Mostly what I play is a central popular lick surrounded by a bunch of stuff I made up ..lol.

Ha, Red Devils, Tail Dragger on King King. One of my all time favourites of all time! That kind of gutsy harp is right up your street SuperBee, I would have thought. With that big amp of yours.
