I haven't been playing the harp for too long, but I just took a small break (circa 10 days) and now I am SUPER into it again. It's nice to get away from things every now and again. =}

I think sometimes you have to. It's natural I expect. I've had several occasions when I've been fed up with playing harp, don't even respect it, wished I'd taken up a different instrument or just stuck to gardening or bike racing. But I always pick it up again and forget that I hate it.

Yesterday I had to turn up for a gig and I realised a couple days before that I hadn't even been carrying a harp for about a week or 10 days.
I put in a little practice but I couldn't even remember the songs on my list, and I couldn't be bothered finding a list and going through it.
That's jaded I think.

Taking a break or just doing something different seems like a good idea. I know what is going on in my head about it, and I have been here before, so I'm optimistic it'll turn around. And the live music scene goes quiet here through the cooler months approaching, so we'll probably regroup and refresh the repertoire, do some actual practice as a band and develop the show and if so I'll perk up again. I mean that's just my circumstance; everyone has their own factors which affect the ebb and flow of enthusiasm. I think enthusiasm is the number one factor in life though, so whatever it takes. Doesn't matter if one never looks at a harmonica again so there's no risk in putting it down and taking a break whenever you're not feeling it. Unless you're in a committed type relationship involving playing harp of course.

Right on SuperBee,

I as well as I'd assume everyone, goes through the motions on things they love/enjoy doing. Taking a break is much needed to get done other things in life, etc, and when you come back, it's like falling in love all over again.
