There was an idea we were all kicking around on Facebook. To make a page that would post a jam track once a week .... then everyone would get to play to it all week. Then at the end of the week post a video of you playing to it.

Then the next week post a new track.

This would have alot of advantages. Like let everyone get ideas as to how everyone else plays to the same track, you spills be able to steal each other's licks, get good comments and critique on your playing, etc.

There were a few logistics problems. Like copyright issues of the jam tracks, who was going to mod the page, etc. So it never really got done. But what would you guys think about doing it in here? I would have suggested it on the MF, but..... it would likely never get off the ground there either.

We have a tight little group in here now. I think we could pull it off just fine.

What do yall think?

It's a great idea, and I while ago I'd been very keen. But I'm not in the mode at the moment.

For I while I did HarmonicaBoogie.com that is a really great site, and fully set up for doing this. If you don't know it you should have a look. The only difficulty was that to take full advantage of a 3min backing track, the best contributors would play harp, sing, add guitar - and make a complete song of it. I wasn't into that, and harp-only contributions didn't have enough oomph in comparison.

But it would be a great thing to get off the ground.

While I remember, the critiques were a little difficult too. It had a good natured, supportive culture, and the comments tended towards not causing offence. Which of course is a good thing. If you go to teacher though on the whole they aren't out to cause offence either but they will tell you what's what.

I'd be interested. I sometimes have to be careful to commit to things and then I end up not having time- and I'm not necessarily looking for a lot of critique, maybe a little- though I'm sure I could use it. I like the idea though. I like the idea of getting ideas from others.

Yea I've heard of harmonica boogie. The traffic on that site is pretty low. Takes a while to get feedback. Not much fun.

Actually bought my vht off of a guy in Baltimore that was from that site belzebob.

3min is Long too. Perhaps just 1 min tracks? Idk just an idea. An no commitment needed. Just for fun.

You mean set up a website for the purpose or a thread within mbh?
A fully functional website with media hosting/streaming/uploading is a fair challenge, both for your time and wallet.
I'm sure you'd get emotional support from us lot though! Lol.
It's a good idea.

To be fair, Killa, I don't think I'd stay committed. Being retired from an occupation that required exact scheduling (dentistry), I enjoy doing what I want when I want to.No schedule is sacred (except when my wife sets it :-) so I probably wouldn't follow through.

I've played with the Harmonica Boogie site on and off for a few years. I think the traffic depends quite a bit on the quality/quantity of the jam tracks available (which members usually create; they're justifiably serious about avoiding any copyright infringement).

I just checked (HB has started their new go-round). There are some nice tracks on there at the moment. It's good for folks like me (who live way out in the sticks) where there are very few - as in zero - folks to jam with.

Is there any reason you can't shorten the jam track on HB.com?

The standard seems to be Audacity as a DAW. Easy to shorten 5 choruses to 3.

@bubinsqueak

I wouldn't see why not. I'm shortened some a bit with Garage Band.

Fun to mess with as a change of pace. A few folks over there occasionally add another track and include original lyrics/vocals as well.
