Hi all,
I also posted some of this in the blues talk welcome thread. I'm happy to finally join the MB forum. I live in NH. Played harmonica since around '83. First to accompany my guitar and started playing cross maybe 10 years after. A harmonica player friend told me many years back that I was holding the harp wrong. I didn't listen to him because I'm just too cool to change. I've jammed a lot with friends and sat in with friends bands which sometimes was great but after the last couple times. Last year I decided to not do that until I got better and had my own amp and a good sound. I've seen some of Adams videos over the years. 3 months ago I made the commitment to develop my technique and re-learn. I put aside my lee oscars which I've only used and got my first Marine Band. I've watched and listened to tons of videos of mostly Adam and Jason R and others. I bought Adams very beginner lesson. That was huge for me. I've read tons on this forum and learned so much info about gear mics etc...So thanks to many of you for that.

In addition to mostly really working on improving my acoustic tone I've been trying lots of amps, some used a few new at guitar center and a couple other local music stores, watching videos deciding on what will be my first amp. Had a 545 mic which just stopped working so i need to fix it maybe if I can, searching hi and lo for a 57 I know i have somewhere...so currently using my 58 with the ball off.. And much of that info I learned here. I think I'm almost there.

I'm much happier now. And yes I was holding the harp wrong.

Hey Scott!

Welcome to the forum! I just joined last month & also started playing the harp last month. My wife got me one for my birthday and have played almost everyday since then! I have gotten down a couple kids songs and am just trying to master playing single notes & just got a hold of the 2 draw.

Hope to see some footage/audio clips from you sometime!

Thanks!
outdoor joe: one thing I'm actually pretty good at is playing kids songs on harmonica, because I teach young kids and I've done a lot of performing for kids over the years, so I know all the songs...These days I'm trying to do more bluesy songs if playing with kids like "this train is bound for glory" and "this little light of mine" and those have helped me improve my playing.

Thanks jason cambell, great to know! I'm planning on getting to some blues jams starting relatively soon and maybe open mics, will be cool to meet sometime.

Now that my kids are older the plan (in my mind anyways) is to start to connect with more musicians.

I'm also from NH seacoast area...
Good luck with your playing. A lot of libraries in this area have an interest in music and sometimes book local performers, also a nice way to see what others are doing etc.

Thanks Spderyak! Maybe see you sometime. My son often has hockey games on the seacost and we love that area. Actually performing at Libraries is something I've done a lot! Though not full time at all and pretty light the past few years, it's still my biz on the side. I perform for kids mostly around Boston outside of my teaching day job. Sometimes in NH and a lot in MA. I was for a long while in the summers just performing and not teaching and past few years began also teaching in summer and still some performing. Ive mostly played guitar and some percussion. I've always done a harmonica tune in my show. The plan for those shows is to add more harp with a better bluesy technique. I had a show last month and did more harp first time since I've been re-learning and practicing and tried out a Boss Rc30 looper for the first time. It was better for me. And of course I want to play also with other blues players/ musicians and not just kids stuff.

These days Mike Rogers has been doing a one man show at some of the Libraries here in NH, Portsmouth, Exeter, Berwick ME and I think as far as the lakes region.
He's an excellent singer, song writer, harp player.
He sometimes plays with Poor Howard Stith both in their 70's with near encyclopedic knowledge of music esp older near forgotten styles of blues etc.
If your doing some playing locally I'd be curious to check it out.
My wife has been a music educator performer since forever, 35 yrs in Woburn if you know the area.
That was a 100 mile daily commute for her...
