New amp (microcube), new mic (looks like an EV 638 that's been sawed off), new harps (MBD key D, Pro master Key G).
I've been playing for not quite a year. This is just me noodling, very sloppy and jumbled but I'm excited about the new amp/mic sounds and wanted to share. Studying theory and such so I can actually put something together that sounds like music. Be gentle!
Also any info on this mic would be appreciated, I can't find any pictures that match the rear housing. The front grill is exactly as the EV 638. might be someone's "bulletized" ec 638. Out Jerusalem PA, engraved initials "DS" on top. The seller said he found it in a box he bought at a yard sale.

I think it is what's left of a 638 when you remove the hinged part. I have a 630 I tried out as a vocal mic today and very happy with. I use it on a stand though. The ev elements are pretty cool. I have a 605 which has been retrofitted with a CM 99B86 and side by side comparison shows the shure element is nowhere near the EV for vocals. I also used the 630 as a harp mic for some high end 1st position and very happy with how that went. 638 has a good reputation. 641 looks similiar at the front but different around back. People are inclined to remove the back section of 638 so I reckon that is what you have.
I would recommend learning some songs. Such as adams tradebit videos. You can break down alot of these into pieces (licks) and the more licks you aquire, the better you can get at improvising.
Theory is good, but the things that helped me were learning rhythms like this one. Simpler than it sounds actually. This was HUGE for me. Notice the way adam teaches the second meathod, of how to let the 123 cord in and narrow back to the 2 draw. There s alot to be learned from this one lesson. Believe it or not.

Super-thank you. Really enjoying this mic, looking forward to trying others over the years. Is there anything I should be doing maintenance wise with this mic?
Killahertz- thank you. Just went over this vid. Really like the licks much simpler than it sounds, you're right. ---------- If you don't cut it while it's hot......
Youll find alot of things that way. They sound awesome, but once you learn em .. it seems so simple.
But this lick specifically was a real big step in my playing. It teaches you SO many things ... to hit the bends and let go, It teaches you to a concrete rhythm, so many good things in here. I hope you really let this one soak in.
No maintenance required in the gear. You should be fine.
Just keeping the screen clean I suppose. Dunno if they have a foam piece in behind the screen. My 585 had the most disgusting remnant of foam inside the screen. Gross!
Killahertz-funkyharp has a lesson with a lick that is very similar to the beginning lick in Adams video as well. Rhythm is a big part of where I need to work. I'll keep at building my vocabulary! Thank you Super-i would like to open the mic up for that reason and also just to see how it is constructed, but most it's components seem to be held in by a compression ring and I don't have the tool to remove that. ---------- If you don't cut it while it's hot......
