I know this topic has been covered on the main forum, but this forum has been quiet for a while and I thought I'd get a beginner's perspective.

I have a 16 hole chromatic in C. I'd like to play some blues riffs with a backing track. The root note draw cord would then be in D I believe so in second position would I be looking at a backing track In the key of A or 3rd position in key of E? With the slide in, I'd be hitting the corresponding flats.

Any suggestions for backing tracks with which to practice would be appreciated. I'm looking for a blues sound and not just the more orchestral sound typical to chromatic.

Now, backing tracks; do you want to play 3rd position? I assume you do, that's the 'normal' kickoff point for blues chromatic.
So 'ultimate jam tracks' has 3 tracks in D. All would be good
Volume 2 has Texas Swing in D, which Dave Barrett uses for his first couple of online chromatic lessons.
Then volume 3 has a Slow Minor in D, and a great track called West Coast Swing in D.
Jimi Lee Groovetrax has a Flat Tire in D on disc 2, and a slow groove called Last Night in D

SB. Thanks. I just got Jimi Lee's Groovetrax a few days ago and haven't checked them all out yet. Is "ultimate jam tracks" a YouTube thing or purchased?

Ultimate jam trax you purchase, unless you are a member of blues harmonica.com, in which case you can download the tracks for free.

Another option for jam tracks is Dennis Gruenling's site badassharmonica.com Dennis offers acoustic jam tracks in virtually every key. It's just acoustic guitar tracks playing different rhythms, tempos, and blues chord structures, specifically made for harmonica players. Good stuff if you like acoustic/duo format.
