This is weird I know, but I tried playing with a nose clip on earlier.

The results are pretty interesting.

Basically my thought process was , "what would my tone sound like if I could access all of my sinus cavity and mouth and throat,(rather than just mouth and throat) without spilling air from my nose (the freediver in me is always thinking of ways to control airflow)?"
So with a noseclip on and breathing/playing with a neutral soft palate (so the air can access all areas) you get a pretty dramatic difference actually.
The volume is quite a lot more for a start, the tone is different, I wouldn't say better as such but it changes it a lot.
Problem is... you have to play with a nose clip...

I fear it may never catch on ;)

Feel free to try in those quieter moments

Haha. You read my mind. No matter how good it sounds. ... i dont see it catching on. Lol

But in the interest of experimentation i say .. nice one. I'll give it a shot and play around with maybe. Why not.

Lol.... maybe... I still haven't found the time to record and post normal stuff yet!
You can try yourself by pinching your nose??.
It's maybe the most groundbreaking technique that the harmonica world has seen since the advent of overblows.

Douglass Tate mentions using the sinuses as a resonant cavity in his book "Play the harmonica well", so it is "a thing". Unfortunately he further writes that he was born with permanently plugged sinuses so he didn't get to use the technique.

I can't play a decent hole 1 draw without scrunching up my nose, the scrunch-volume- boost is pronounced...
