Ok well I thought I started a thread like this already, but ill be damned If I can find it.

So my idea is to start a thread in which we all add licks to. I was listening to a couple licks I came up with the other day, and they are getting better. Some of my luck ideas that i record, when i go back and listen I'm like... wtf? But these aren't bad. And im sure yall have a few that you like. So i thought we could share. I'm going to start trying to post signs files of good lick ideas. Because even if they aren't solid licks yet, atleast others may be able to build off of them. So i think it ll be fun.

This is kinda how i keep my licks. I'll sometimes give a verbal description to remind me, then I'll play it slow, then in the context in which I came up with it while playing. The context is always just improved so its not that great, but the point is to show weather i meant it as an ending or a rhythm or chord transition lick , etc.

So hopefully yall can upload some of your ideas. That would be pretty dope.

Sorry for all the noise btw. I told you i do most of my playing while driving, so that's when i have to record, when i come up with it. Because ill forget it 5 seconds later.

The last one is just a lil change i came up with. It's rather quiet because i can't really play full volume in the house. But the point is still there.

But let's see what yall got. I started it off. I know MTG has a whole computer full of these bad boys. They dont have to be technical or anything. Sometimes a lick starting on an unusual hole is good. Like 5 bent licks. Or whatever. Just a cool rhythm or bassline. I love bassline riffs.

That would require me to record something and upload it...and then you'd know all my stuff...I've only got about 4 anyway...
Maybe I'll get there...just so lazy...getting swamped with repair jobs...I think I wanna get a zoom camera. My h1 is ok but drains battery so bad. What's a good recorder?

I use my cellphone. Galaxy s4 with the stock recorder app. Nothing fancy here. Then i can upload it right to the box from my phone. Then copy the embed code and paste it in here. Ez Peezy. No sweat. For the record i didn't record these with the intent of uploading. But after listening to them today i thought they would make good ones to start this thread off. If your playing and come up with something cool .... record it then upload it when you get time. It Doesnt have to be soon. I just wanted to kinda keep this in here. Like the what are you working on thread.

What i do is use the website. Then click request desktop site. Then it will work like the computer does. Just click the upload button, then when your done click and hold on the file and a list pops up. Pick share, embed widget, copy, paste.

Just to put it in perspective. I just found this looking for another lick to post. This is the first sound clip in my phones recorder.

Its dated 5/28/15. Almost exactly a year ago. Lol. Thats not me playing btw, its a recording of the youtube video i was practicing.

This is a great idea, but I don't think the MBH site technology is going to support it! OK for sharing the odd one or two but to do it properly need some kind of site with cataloguing/tagging etc.

I collect snippets more or less on a daily basis, so I have many. My cataloguing is idiosyncratic, as all personal filing systems are. Just like you know that round needle file is in the left hand draw of that cabinet. It's always been that way.

I was thinking just the same about the website. It's almost a superstition with Adam, his insistence it's the old hat format that keeps the forum ticking...but maybe he is right...
Btw...I just lost an entire topic to the spam filter. I wasn't that surprised as my post was simply a link.
I'll tell you what it was...I saw Greg Heumann had shared a video of Dan Sullivan using a 'heumann element' mic, and I was interested as Dan is my most recent client. I repaired a bunch of crossover plates for him recently. It was a memorable job, not just because he is an accomplished player but also because he made a point of requesting I tune the draw octaves. I've not heard back from him so maybe the work was rubbish...but anyway...thought folks may be interested to hear an Australian player you may not otherwise hear of...and notice the horrible muddy tone from that bullet mic (not)

Do you still have the link? I'd like to see.

I think Adam is right about the site. I know it's basic but it has a different flavour to other forums I've seen with all their bells and whistles. Because of the 'front page churn' effect, I find it compelling to check regularly because I know when I do I almost always find something useful. No, not endless discussions about combs :) but new music.

The youngsters call it FOMO - Fear of Missing Out and this is the ONLY place I let it apply in my life.

(The combs do look really nice though, I give you that)

Anyway re the OP, I do like the idea of a lick vault. If I had time I'd work something out. I have the skills, not the time.

Re Dan Sullivan, Ta. Very nice. That horrible muddy tone :) is lovely for that style with lots of controlled shakes. You think he's playing a harp you refurbished?

In fact that clip was doubly useful because the drummer is in shot much of the time, and I can watch what he's doing too. My drumming is currently at the level of basic time-keeping for the band, and watching things like this is much more practical than watching the 'Look, I'm a drummer! Listen to my non-stop polyrhythms' videos.

Re Endless Comb conversation.

Hah. I do that shit on purpose because i know it pisses people off. I give the most lengthy detailled description ever.

Whatever i tried to make something good, guess everyone's too lazy.

I still read them. I particularly like your detailed descriptions actually.

The combs give people a lot of pleasure it's clear. I can appreciate that. Definitely in the 'small objects of beauty' category. Especially the way they are photographed - as I mentioned before, very much like photos of food in cookery articles. Looking all shiny and perfect before being covered in spit!

I don't know if you subscribe to Harp-L but just recently there was a big row about whether different comb materials change the sound. There's something satisfying about getting stuck into the minutiae of a subject.

Just glad this isn't Modern Blues Bassoon - we'd never be able to afford all these mods.

So... for months I've been trying to encourage people to post licks and such, leading by example. And now all kHz has to do is rock up with "let's start a thread" and Hey Presto - everyone's recording!!! :) :)

Oh well, it's the end result that counts.

Well it might not happen. I just found out I've got driver duty tomorrow...and the nature of the forum is that this stuff slides away...and the older it gets the faster it slides away. Somehow it doesn't hold its position when it's bumped. And you can't make a sticky..hence the idea of collating links in a signature block...
Except..no that won't work...you could make a separate page like the forum how-to, but you wouldn't be able to add to it...you'd have to link off-site...nate's wiki idea...
Anyway, I can maybe get two for one value and demo a couple of those amps while recording some licks...not that they're 'mine' except in the sense that I play them.

They sound much better btw when explained calmly in a quiet room. Instead of doin 80 down the highway like mine 8^x.

Really loving alot of those. The first JR wells turnaround. The Cotton Thing is Fantastic. Im going to have to get that lesson for sure. The Horton Stuff is great. Alot of really good stuff. Its going to be hard to post anything that seem worthwile after that. Lol.

Very nice.

I see you got the Box working aswell. Pretty easy right?

i'll record some more using the vibrochamp xd. those above are all using the little kriesler amp, just with the internal speaker. the mic is a brown bullet with a 1953 shure element. i like the slightly smaller brown shell. that little kriesler..

not that its about the gear of course...just trying to kill two birds in one shot here

If anyone can make use of that it is cool...i dont have that much in my bag, that is probably half of it...nah, i dunno...you dont really know until you start to drag it out...jimi lee taught me a bunch of useful stuff and then as you all should know, the adam gussow lessons contain a lot of good stuff..like you learn a song but with in the song are all the bits that make it work...and dave barrett taught me a lot of stuff too...and then there are some things from books...i used to fret that my playing was too heavily influenced from too few sources...but you have to start out with nothing so big deal.

Excellent, lots of licks! That amp sounds great, like it's got a bite to it, if you know what I mean. That's that sound I keep banging on out. Is it room quiet?

OK, I have to join in then. This has got three things I've been working on just now:

1. From Jimmy Rogers It' Aint Me (I presume LW) a nice way to come down from a 5D wail. Then a stock way of rounding off the first 4 bars with a chordy-TB flourish, also based around 5D.

2. Over the IV chord, a pattern that I hear from Walter Horton a lot, this or other similar patterns. Key thing is it emphasises the 4B.

3. Over the V-IV chords, straight from Walter Horton, arpeggiating the chords using 2' 3'' 4 (standard enough) then the blow notes 2+ 3+ 4+. Yes blow notes. I've discovered that he use blow notes a lot, and I'm going to copy that. BLOW NOTES - that's where it's at.

Very nice. That IV chord lick is similar to one I use a lot. I will listen again to the V IV. But the arpeggiated chord is a good thing to just know. As much as the scale I think, because it gives another foundation for invention.
Not quite sure about the 'room quiet' question...
The amp runs quietly, which amazes me when I look at the construction...I think you've seen it...
and it's the most 'home friendly' of my amps. I was gonna plug it into an external cab today but really I wanted the low volume of the small speaker...i think it's 6" x 4" though I haven't measured it.

Just trying embedding a folder instead of individual files.

If that works, then you have...

1. Re Gary Primich In Walks G (it was on the MF last week or so) - a normal bluesy lick with a slightly surprise 5+.

2. Re LW it ain't me. As above

3. 5OB. The bit of interest is at 8s on the IV chord, where I wanted to do scale degrees 3 4 b5 5, which is 5+ 5 5OB 6+. I don't do overblows, but clearly I wanted this enough that I imagined it into reality. The power of thought. And this was on a Lee Oskar, can you believe?
