Anyone Have One? Thoughts? Does it compare to any other harps?

Do the reeds compare to manji? Im sure they don't, but im Curious none the less.

Ive wanted to try one for a while now. I wanted a woody, but i guess they ve been discontinued.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, Killa. I have a couple Delta Frost. I have one in C. They look and feel identical to a Suzuki Harpmaster and supposedly have the same phosphor bronze reed plates. And they claim to be assembled in America. When I first got it I couldn't detect any difference between the DF and the Harpmaster. As I've gained more experience and become more sensitive to the subtleties among harps I mow see a big difference.

I recently pulled the DF out of hibernation to sit in my car as a travel harp. What I found was that the DF is not as easy to bend, which I still struggle with, and seems much more airy/leaky than my Harpmaster in the same key OOTB. I think once I re gap and perhaps flat sand the reed plates ( which I haven't had to do yet with my Suzuki harps), it may be ok.

Based on what I've read about your relationship with your harps, I think you'd be disappointed with the DF. Better quality control with Suzuki.

Matter of fact. (I was waiting to post this but. ....)

I actually bought a delta frost a week or so ago. And it was horrible. The gaps were so wide i couldn't play any of the notes. However i did like the size, comb, sturdyness, general design. I immediately took it apart and tried to properly gap it. But in doing so i discovered that the reed shape needed alot of working on aswell. As with gaping alone it still would not really play right. So i kinds gave up on it for the time being.

However, I shared this in another thread on the forum.(dont remember which)

Rockin Ron happened to be reading the forum at the time. And since I had bought it from him,(which i didnt disclose on the thread because it made no difference where i bought it from. ) he contacted me and told me that John Hall of Bushman really stands behind his product and would surely send me a replacement. I told him not to worry about it, but he insisted. He asked permission to give John my info and i told him it was fine.

John called me the next morning and I talked with him for over an hour about things. About how i realised that the harp i got was probably a fluke and a lemon, but since it was my first from him, that i really felt burned. And it really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Let me say that this guy is passionate about his product. He explained to me a bit of the history in the company. They have apparently just switched reed manufacturers. He also explained that even if i got a properly setup harp that the gaps are a bit wider than other harps and the reason that the reeds are set that way is so they don't lockup under hard playing. Ok .. ill buy that.

So long story short John insisted that he send me another harp. He wanted me to give his harps another shot, to which i said ofcourse. He even sent me a different key than the one i had bought. So im eager to try it out. And to be fair (another point that John brought up) its not fair to be comparing this harp with the top models out right now. And it's a $35 harp. So.... he has a point. And he claims he reeds still last much longer than other harps in that price point (sp20, etc.) And i do prefer the bigger holes and comb setup of the bushman to the sp20.

But as far as im concerned harp manufacturers lay too heavy on the reed life as a selling point. IMO extended reed life is a BONUS, but if the harp plays like hell ... who cares how long the reeds last? Because i won't be playing it anyways.

But as i said im awaiting a new harp from Bushman and was going to wait until i had a review of this new harp before posting this, but .....

Im sure it will be a lot better than the first one i got. And his personal attention to this issue went along way in my book.

BTW I'm just stating my opinions and trying to be as fair as possible. Everyone has different taste in harps. There are great players who play ever model of harp out there. So find out for yourself. This is just my views and experience on the subject.
