I decided to make my own impedance transformer for the low and medium Z mics I have. Didn’t want to spend out on a Shure transformer and all the various adaptors etc to get it working with my kit. The tube and bits are all hand made and assembled. The cable glands offer fantastic strain relief...this thing is armour plated! The transformer is a Neutrik NTE-4. I decided to make it an in-line unit so as to cut down on the extra leads I would need to carry around. Man this makes my 300ohm Shure/Turner a powerful tone monster...it’s like having a new mic!

Very nicely done.

The only issue I can see is that with the short lead, the impedance transformer may end up sitting next to the transformer from the amp, thereby picking up hum. Has this been an problem?

Man, for the first time I have heard what my Turner mic (Shure CM element) is capable of...I’m in love with it owing to this transformer...how did I miss this basic thing?! It’s like a new experience!
