"The approach of Christmas brings harrassment and dread to many excellent people. They have to buy a cart-load of presents, and they never know what to buy to hit the various tastes; they put in three weeks of hard and anxious work, and when Christmas morning comes they are so dissatisfied with the result, and so disappointed that they want to sit down and cry. Then they give thanks that Christmas comes but once a year." - Mark Twain, "Following the Equator"

I think just about every religion has a holiday around this time of year. What that says to me is that the middle of the winter is a cold time when we all need a party. (And for those of you in warmer climes, or where it's summer, who couldn't use a party?)
May whatever you celebrate be enjoyable. Going up to my mom's tomorrow for a non-traditional Christmas feast (with the caveat that I'm on a stupid diet!). May you, your friends and family all be well. :)

Yes, even in San Diego, it's best to stay indoors and drink plenty of fluids!
Gnarly, I was out visiting my Dad one Christmas in El Cajon. He kept apologizing for the record cold snap with highs in the 50s.
When I got back off the plane in Albany it was four below. :)
Actually, we nearly had a family financial meltdown one Christmas Eve. It was snowing and my brother called. He was about 10 minutes away from my mom's house. In the snow a deer had rushed out and he'd hit it. He was okay, but his car was undrivable. (The insurance company called it a total write off.) He needed a ride to the rest of the way so I got my coat on and went out to pick him up. The police officer had his spotlight on, and with the snow flying it was creating such a glare that I couldn't see anything. I figured that was the spot, so I started to pull of onto the shoulder... only the cop had pulled the deer off onto the shoulder. I came about a foot from hitting the same deer my brother did! One car down was bad enough. Two would have been a disaster.
