I have an Astatic element , I believe its a ceramic . has code MC-564 on the back with a date code of 939. Its extremely loud. It is copper backed . Can anyone tell me about it more as I can't find this particular designation anywhere? Also what year / date it is from that 3 digit code?

This is the replacement element used in the model 531 microphone. The Astatic 531 was designed for mobile operations, either sideband or AM. A page in the "Herbert W. Gordon Co. Amateur Radio Catalog" described it as: “a high performance ceramic microphone with a tailored response for maximum clarity and intelligibility for speech frequencies. It has a high impact plastic housing with a 3-conductor shielded coiled cable 5' long."

I expect it's from September 1939 - 9-39

Thanks BnT. If I remember rightly I found it some sort of new old stock still in the box hand mic but can't remember what it was exactly - I think it had more of a handle than that one , but the element is the same it looks like.. 1939 might be a bit early . I had a guess that maybe it was 1949 39th week? but not sure how that date code is supposed to work.

Not positive. The Shure CR black label I use is 5-49 so I know that one's not the 54th week.
