Although one of my favourites, I'm not much when it comes to playing in the Sonny Terry style. However, it has still puzzled me for too long as to what the heck he is doing in this song at the 1:00 mark. He does it a few times throughout the song. Can anyone break this down for me?
Cheers,
Rusty

When I click on the video from the US, I get the message "The uploader has not made this video available in your country."

Oh, here is a different source. If that doesn't work it's the song "born to live the blues" from the At Sugar Hill live album

Hey Rusty, I guess Winslow would be the guy to let you know.

I thought first off that he was tongueing the draw chord with a bend start sort of iddle-iddle-iddle style with a loose tongue tip bouncing of the roof of the mouth and had a go but it didn't sound quite the same. I think he maybe doing a draw tukka-tukka-tukka thing. It's pretty darn fast anyway!

OK, this link works for me:

I'm hearing ta-ka-ta-ka-ta-ka articulations.

Oh. I was hearing very fast bends, possibly with the tongue.

What's happening is to further build upon Winslow's description is the tongue beating off the palate of his mouth rapidly, which Magic Dick also used in part of his signature instrumental, Whammer Jammer. This is one technique that can't be done properly with a tongue block.

Thanks guys. I was hoping it was going to be something more than just a really fast ta-ka-ta-ka. Don't expect I'll ever be able to get that fast, haha
