I was browsing Craigslist for my area (Portland, OR) and did a search for 'harmonica' to see what came up...and this was NOT what I expected:

https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ele/d/wilcox-gay-record-lathe-with/6666415875.html

"Wilcox - Gay Recordio record cutting and playback machine. Includes radio and PA system with the coolest harmonica microphone.
1946 6B30.
The unit fires up and the PA works. Hums, indicating worn out electrolytic capacitors.
Needles are not present, but widely available on Ebay.
Simple restoration project, or use for a guitar amp conversion."

I thought some of you might enjoy a look at this bit of recording history - heck, I'd love to see Greg or someone else with the tech skills or spare $ buy it and see what could be done with it! Can you say 'busking rig'/portable recording studio?

Anyway, just thought I'd share...I'm not doing anything harmonically exciting, just working scales and First Position blues over and over...and over...and over...

Might be fun playing with wax recipes.

Heck, just the microphone shell (an Astatic biscuit) is worth $50. Probably more since they imply that the crystal still works. I've seen a couple of these Recordio machines at flea markets but never with the mic still intact. Looks like a good deal for a tube amp tinkerer.

When I was a kid we used to have a little portable record maker that folded up in a suitcase. I don't think we ever used it, and eventually it ended up in a garage sale, along with the oscilloscope my dad made in college and upright piano... all which would be pretty cool to have today.
