I wonder if anyone´s got some swift hands on instructions for setting a parametric EQ?
It´s a Boss PQ-3B (or maybe PO-3B).
It´s going to be put before a 5W tube amp. I haven´t used the pedal in a while, the knobs are turned and I can´t remember what it all looked like before. (And maybe it wasn´t entirely to my satisfaction when I stopped using it.)

I understand zero about dB and logarithmic scales and such, so forgive me if I sound like a bastard here but I wont be able to process high level instructions. And it´s too late in the day to educate me.

Why don´t I muck around with it myself?
I live in an apartment: it´s totally out of the question to experiment with such devices here. Also, I will not have the time to take amp and pedal to a rehearsal room, so it will be touch and go for a gig this Saturday. At best I´ll have two minutes to fiddle around with things.

The Boss has low, middle and high knobs(unsurprisingly), both adjusting level and frequency, as wellas a separate "level" knob that gives ... well, gain, I suppose.

I want to loose some trebliness in the amp, boost bass and mids -- but *not* loose treble entirely! (I recall that I have at, former times, managed to cut all treble out of the equation, and it got a bit ridiculous since I´m one of those who use the top octave quite a bit.)

Any dumbed down input here, for a bewildered technophobe, will be seriously appreciated!

Whatever else you do or don't do, you should boost 240-250 hz. It fattens harp tone very nicely. That is the magic freq. for harp.

Thank you, hvyj.
Problem is, I don´t know where they are. If it hade been a graphic (that I used to own, before a music store guy convinced me that I should buy a parametric ...), then maybe I would have seen where to go, but it doesn´t work that way on the parametric.

Each control knob has 2 concentric settings. One points to the freq you want to boost and the other controls how much you want to boost it. I'm not sure the frequencies are all precisely and specifically marked but at least the highest and lowest for each knob are, so you may need to approximate the location of the one you are trying to adjust.

I tried fiddling with it a bit here at home, but you need some volume to hear the differences, so nothing much came out of that. It´s not very intuitive (unlike the graphic) and no, the frequencies are only marked lowest and highest. I think I´ve always boosted bass frequencies, but not level, to the the maximum but I´m not sure anymore and I think I´ll just get rid of it. Gear you don´t understand is just a source of frustration.
