If you're a SPAH member, now's your chance – but the June 30 deadline is fast approaching.

Who deserves to be honored by SPAH with an award? Every SPAH member can make a difference and nominate a deserving candidate among harmonica players, teachers, and community members.

But there’s not much time left – June 30 is the deadline for 2018 nominations.

Send nominations to spahawards@gmail.com

You don’t need to use a form, but be sure to include:
  • Your name and contact information

  • The name of the nominee, and contact information if you have it.

  • Please relate why and how your candidate meets each of the criteria for the specific award. Please don’t assume that everyone understands your reasons.

Also, please check to make sure your candidate hasn’t already received that award already as they can only win it once. You can find the list of prior award recipients here:

http://www.spah.org/content.asp?contentid=61

Here are the three awards and the criteria for each one. We look forward to selecting a deserving recipient as a result of your participation.

Bernie Bray Harmonica Player of the Year Award
  • Candidates should be individuals (not organizations) who are harmonica players.

  • Candidates’ proficiency should be a source of pride for the community – the award should be for excellence in actually playing the instrument.

  • Award should be for distinction demonstrated or attained recently, preferably during a twelve month period prior to the deadline for nominations.

  • Only one person may receive the Bernie Bray Award in any year.

  • Only one person may receive the Bernie Bray Award in any year.

Pete Pedersen Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Candidates should have a record of achievements over a long period of time that may reasonably be considered to be the virtual equivalent of a lifetime.

  • Candidates that have established themselves as outstanding harmonica players are preferred.

  • Candidates should be active in promoting the preservation and advancement of the harmonica and the positive and meaningful interaction of harmonica players and devotees.

  • Candidates should demonstrate generosity in sharing their talents and knowledge, and in remaining accessible to members of the harmonica community.

  • Only one person may receive the Pete Pedersen Lifetime Achievement Award in any one year unless there is a compelling reason to do otherwise.

Stan Harper Award of Special Merit (formerly the SPAH Award of Special Merit)
  • Candidates must have benefited the harmonica community in a manner that is deserving of singular honor.

  • Candidates may be individuals who do not play the harmonica.

  • Candidates may be organizations.

We look forward to SPAH members making their voices heard.

Here's a tip if you're gong to nominate someone:

Give your reasons in full. Referring the committee to a website makes them do extra work to process and digest the reasons for the nomination. And that puts a burden on them, when they may have dozens of candidates to evaluate and discuss.

Instead, play them the movie - state the reasons in your nomination, so that they can easily understand why your candidate is deserving.

@Jinx - so I get that you think highly of Konstantin. That's great, and maybe that's all you mean to express.

However, if you're seriously thinking of making an actual nomination, then I'd ask, nominate for what? It has to be for one of three specific awards. The nomination has to come from a SPAH member in writing, and has to articulate how the nominee meets the criteria for the award, and why that nominee is worthy.
