Wonder what mic you have? That makes a difference as far as matching impedance. A high impedance mic- like a bullet mic with a "hot" element- wants a tube amp which is a high impedance amp. A typical vocal or instrument mic from say, Shure- SM57 and 58 are two examples- want a solid state p.a. or amplifier which is made for them rather than the "hotter" high impedance mics.

Welcome to this forum by the way! Lots of good counsel here besides mine.

Vondy, you don't have to spend a lot to start out with. A solid state amp will be fine until you know exactly what you want to get out of the amp.
When I first started I used a small Fender Sidekick 15 with reverb, I had that for the best part of 20 years before I let it go.
You'll pick a 15W solid state Fender for around $100 Aussie dollars on Gumtree. There's a Frontman 25 for $170 but you come across Frontman 65's for under $200, I think there was a 65R listed for $150.
I have used my frontman 25 as a foldback amp. The advantage is that the Frontman has a high and low gain input along with a dirty channel and it also has reverb so you can get most of what your looking for just out of the amp.
Unless you are out gigging a solid state 15w amp should do the job for you and get you started.
