Hi

In an old post I've read that there is an hardware modification for the RV3 boss reverb, used in order to lower the noise that this pedal has in some situations. Someone can tell me more details about this mod?

Many thanks, bye

From Ron Holmes:

Here you are. This is the exact circuit I use. The biggest problems are choosing the best components to use and small enough to fit. I recommend using all 1%, ¼ watt, metal film resistors. Xicons are fine. For C1 use Vishay film and foil Mylar. Do spend the money for a tantalum cap for C3. Your sound will be cleaner and much more detailed. More air.

I screen my 2N5484 FETs for suitable Idss. With a suitable FET the Source lead DC will be about ½ of the +9 volt buss. That will allow the maximum peak to peak audio output without distortion. I think Radio Shack carries these.

Keep connection wires short since the input impedance of this circuit is very high-4.7 Megohms. The actual input Z of the FET is way higher than the 4.7 meg resistor. So that is the real load your mic or guitar sees. Don’t forget C2-it should be a mica or disk ceramic for RF noise bypass.

I add a ferrite bead (RF choke) between jack input, R4 and C2 AND C1 to further block HF noise. Light dimmers, copy machines, wireless equipment, etc. misc stage electronics generate huge electrical noise that is propagated into every shield cord on stage. The coax shields make great antennas!

So the input noise filtering is essential. The better the parts you use, the quieter everything will be. Let me know if you have questions. Have fun!

Best-

PS-feel free to pass this around. It is only for personal use but everyone is welcome to see it. I encourage players to experiment and build their own stuff. rlh
