Interesting thing happened recently...

I was in the Washington DC area a few weeks ago. I was meeting another harp player -- he may be on the MBH forum, I'm not sure -- at the Olde Bowie Town Grille in Bowie, MD because he said it was a great blues jam with good music and good folks.

So I'm sitting in a booth, ordering dinner, when this guy comes up to me and says, "Cliffy? from the Dirty South Harmonica Forum?"

His name was Charles (he wasn't the guy I was meeting, I had never met this person before), and he is mostly a lurker, not an active poster, but he had read some of my posts and seen some of the video clips I had posted. He was the bass player for the house band and plays harp as well. He recognized me from the video clips.

Charles was a great guy and we got to chat a bit. And it turned out that the Olde Bowie Town Grille did have an awesome blues jam with great folks.

It was really weird and funny to be recognized from online video clips. My kids, who normally think I am the farthest thing from cool, seemed to think that this was a big deal. I explained to them that the harmonica community was probably kind of small, and that it was no big deal, but then I realized that to my kids it was big and I should just run with it and let them think I'm famous. Which was kind of fun :)

That's pretty cool... the closest I ever got to that was also pretty recently. I was arguing, fairly civilly thankfully, with someone on Youtube on a topic that had absolutely nothing to do with harmonica and someone recognized my handle. I actually have been meaning to create some spare Youtube handles after one guy stalked me from a politics thread to some of my harmonica videos and game stuff. I'm not embarrassed by any of my posts, but some guys are dangerous!

Glad your experience was a good one!

It's a BIG world - Made up of lots of little communities.
There is a good lesson for your kids in this, Cliffy. People can find you through your internet activities, and that may not always be a good thing.
