Ive been taking free group guitar lessons for 3 years....recently hired a teacher for single note playing.....been playing harp almost 40 years.....first love.....but acoustic guitar only.....thats all Im interested in.....delta blues and piedmont blues.....love it
I played bass guitar in a rock and roll band back in the mid 60's and been playing folk style guitar since the mid 60's. I haven't made much progress on the guitar because I play the same things over and over. Guitar is a good instrument to learn for all types of music. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.
I play guitar a lot more than harp. Mostly in an acoustic guitar duo where we cover a variety of blues styles, but occasionally I will play solo and do mostly delta blues in that context. I also play with a husband and wife guitar and vocal folk duo. In that context I play lead guitar and a little bit of harmonica. I play in a blues rock band also but only play a little bit of acoustic guitar, specifically on songs that are more traditional and some mellower material, because we have two great guitarists who are a whole lot better than I will ever be. I am pretty much just the singer in that group, but I am working on my harp skills so that I can start playing a little but more.
I am a guitarist, been playing for 54 years. Harp is great, but I have more control of the guitar, for one thing, I can see what I am doing! Also play mandolin, that's great for melody but also capable of chording.

Thanks Sarge! Hey Tony, Pat came to SPAH a few years back, I sat in the bar and jammed with him and Todd Parrott-- I kept trying to get him to play guitar, but he resisted.

I play the Baritone Uke.... four strings is my limit! I had tried guitar many times, but gave up. I'm enjoying the Uke. I recently bought a 4 string banjo and tuned it to the Uke. I really like playing it a lot.
But, I'm not that good, but have fun. I'm better at the harp....
Always good to see some guitar. Thanks for the clips above gents. Nice!
Harp is my first love but I’ve dabbled with acoustic guitar over the years. Here are some clips with the rack. Always wanted to play some lead but never got to grips with it.
I tried to learn guitar 30 years ago. That was before Youtube, and before I had any idea about music theory. So I never got further than learning a handful of chord shapes, and imitating a few Stones or Neil Young songs. I then became busy with everything else in my life, and I gave up on guitar.
Recently I dug out my dusty 30-year-old Yamaha folk guitar, re-strung it, and started to learn again. It is so much easier now, since I have learned about music, and music theory, through the harmonica. And having played harp in a blues-rock band over the past 6-8 years has really increased my understanding of the guitar. The huge amount of instructional videos available on Youtube today is also a game changer, compared to 30 years ago. I'm now motivated, and at a phase in my life where I have a bit more time to dedicate to guitar. I have starting playing 10 to 20 minutes every day. The barre chords are proving nearly impossible on my old acoustic, so I'm thinking about buying one of those Mexican Telecasters. To be continued...

In my previous post I had mentioned that I could not play the six string. However that has now changed. My son and I each received really nice used electric guitars under the condition we use them. I spent the three day weekend teaching myself to play. Still have much to improve upon, but it's a start. All my music knowledge from harmonica, mandolin, and other instruments really helped.
I have played slide for almost 50 years. I've played very seldom the past 10 years but I had two great teachers - Luther Tucker and Hound Dog Taylor - so every now and then I bring out my 4 pick-up Kimberly just to hear that sound again.
I always think of Hound Dog's line, "When I die they'll say, 'He couldn't play shit, but he sure sounded good'." That would be enough for me. ---------- BnT
Nice, David! And Brent Mason also plays on your album? Not too shabby. I play "living room" guitar. Mostly cowboy chords. I have started to incorporate lap steel guitar on a few gigs. I'm not very good but having fun with it. Mostly on swing tunes but here I sneak in a few blues licks near the end of "Diving Duck Blues":
Here is a clip of me playing guitar from a Spontobeat documentary done way back on a playschool camera that recoded on cassette tape. I have a real bass and drummer backing me.
