you know that one awesome lick in little walters 'last night'...it has eluded me for so long. it happens on the iv i believe during the solo, right after those three warbles. i don't stress on playing a song like a cover, that's why i love blues. it is spontaneous and improvisational, hell, ya gotta make it your own right! breaking this riff down has been a frustrating exercise. i just can't nail it. the mannish boys nailed it beautifully in their cover. can any one come up with some tab?

It’s on the I chord, measure 4. I’ll break it down if no one else does, but I won’t get to it for at least 12 hours.

Something like 3’ +4 4 +5 5 +6 5 +5 4 +4 3’ 3’ 3” 2 2” 2 2
Sorry, no time notation. There’s something else in the first phrase I can’t quite pick up, may be an artefact, dunno, some may think it significant but I can live with some mystery.
that first note is a pickup from bar 3, I’ll leave the count to you as I’m too lazy and also you can figure how it fits into the bit that follows. I reckon he swaps that 2 draw for a 3 blow at the end to set up the IV chord warble

G harp of course Hope you can hear the phrases There could be some scooping on the 4 draw but it’s mainly the phrases and then I think catching the expression is up to you.

Superbee: He also touches 6D on that ascending lick in the first phrase, as well as 6B. (My impression is that the + sign stands for "blow"?)

Yes, that’s my meaning of +
6 draw, I can accept it. I could hear another higher pitch but couldn’t quite grab it.

thanks for that perspective superbee. it is amazing to think that walter probably knew basicly where he wanted to go when he recorded that phrase, but i bet he never worried about playing it the same way twice. it's no fun thinking when you're playing, you just gotta feel! trying to figure a phrase like this out is a good exercise however.
