I have never used any kind of POD, but I met a musician a couple of years ago who was getting a great live sound playing through a shaker mic and a POD direct to the PA. His name is Hamilton Loomis if you want to look him up on YouTube or something. He told me he used the 59 Bassman setting on his POD. It wasn't a pocket POD though, I believe his was one of the first or second generation PODs.
