This appears to be a live performance, and the sound is rather crappy. At around 7:15 Lee Oskar takes a solo on a blues number, then at the very end he´s backing Eric B on another blues.
From my understandning Lee (whose spastic physical style is in full motion already here -- it looks a bit like he´s on the verge of a heart attack) was playing through PA:s at this time (mostly sounding quite good) but there´s an interesting difference in the sound he gets when he´s blowing his solo as opposed to when he´s mostly backing.

I hear a lot of Butterfield in that solo.

This was an extremely unfortunate period when it came to hair (we´re into something similar again now), but maybe Lee´s microphone Afro was a way of somehow compensating for his Caucasian pallor amid the other War members?

More importantly though, he´s got his harmonica style already in place, and he´s been working along that line ever since -- albeit nowadays with a plethora of effects.

I used to wear a harmonica belt too. I had a shoe store make me two 6 slot pouches to slide a belt through and it was very handy. I still have one of them and dunno whatever happened to the other.
The very first time I heard Lee Oskar on the radio I thought of Paul Butterfield's harp playing. Like P.B., L.O. is great at the call and response playing that is one of the cornerstones of blues. As we know, w/ technology, sound has improved on TV, on stage, in studios, even home studios and everywhere. I agree that modern hair styles, along w/ women's shoes are not at a high point at this time. Keith Jarret pianist of The Charles LLoyd Quartet isn't black but also used to sport an impressive afro. So did the white actor known as Bernie on the T.V. show Room 222. Which turns my thoughts to old T.V. Della Reese had her own show. Cool! There was Soul Train. The Flip Wilson Show. Johnny Carson. There was Sanford and Son. Night Music w/ Dave Sanborn where one could see Bootsy Collins, Sun Ra, and old clips of Thelonius Monk- just for starters. The list goes on and on. Thanks for posting and reminding me that once upon a time American T.V. had a lot of shows worth watching.

I think Della took Eric to school on that one.
