I'm making some wood cover plates and I'm running into a small problem. I need a longer screw. Truth be told, the covers I'm making are fitted for a double reedplate Special 20 from Bluemoon. The wood calls for a screw about 3mm longer than what a Special 20 uses. Additionally, I have difficulty making square holes for the nuts used on the S20.

I'm currently using a barrel nut from some chromatic in my junk bin and a crossover screw. The only (small) problem is that the nut is nickel and the screw is brass. It functions, but I put a lot of time into this project and would very much like all the metal parts to match.

Do any of yall know what thread size and pitch I need to look for?

A Crossover uses 4 screws for covers and a Special 20 uses 2 screws. My first thought is to look at either Seydel Session screw sets or Suzuki Olive or Bluesmaster screw sets. These have barrel nuts and are longer due to the full cover styles being thicker. However, with a Bluemoon comb there is also the issue of the size of the holes through the comb to consider.

Crossover uses metric screws M2.0 for cover bolts, M1.6 for reedplates. You can get these in several lengths.

While you're at it, you could get matching nuts to replace those horrible butterfly nuts that Hohner continues to use on the S20 and 270.

@WinslowYerxa yah, the S20 nuts a pain. Thanks for the info, though. I'm hoping M2 has a universal pitch of 0.4.

Mahcks - I tried screwing a generic Chinese M2.0 spacer into a Crossover barrel nut and it fit just fine.

I replaced mine with some brass 4-40 screws and nuts from McMaster Carr. Fit perfectly. I did this to my Rockets too.

Mahcks - if you will forgive me, I am not sure what your true identity is. You may have told me in the past, but I'm not connecting the dots. Send me an email so we can have a conversation. I am up to my eyeballs in all sorts of screws. I'm confident that I can provide you with a solution.
