here it is, the long awaited, "ultra" super 57. I had a friend of mine, super harp mic tech steve ... thunder harp warner install a volume control on my 57... while he was in there it was converted to high impedance.

for those days when it is too hot to travel with a crystal mic. this will do the trick.

hopefully i can record a track this week to showcase the sound.

I would like to know what pot he used? Value, size, manufactuer. I recently picked up a near mint 545 Unidyne III with the old 4 pin plug. I set it up for high impedance then played that mic out a few nights ago. I REALLY liked it but missed the VC.

Yes, I went there and looked around. My main concern is fitment. Which pot will fit in the 57/545 body. There is a transformer in the 545 to deal with also. Not sure if the 57 has a transformer. I've built several bullets but these stick mics are new to me. Maybe I should find a junker to diesect...

Not sure if the 57 has a transformer.....

IT DOES NOW!

the 545 with a single impedance transformer is what i am attempting to re-create.

not sure how successful as of yet, i havn't a 545 to compare it with. not all 545's are created equal.

I also see you got your black electrical tape wrapped around the air holes. This thing looks bullet proof.

mr warner put the tape on to prevent the capsule from turning. not sure how it affects the sound. i do like hakan's idea of rubber tubing, but the tape does the job.

looks like i'll get a chance to use it tomorrow. if i can get a decent enough recording i will post it.

A 545 that I added a Vic to some time ago. Sounds good too.
