Hey guys, I know the main riff - in A on an A harp, 1st pos - -2, --3, --3,+4, but does anyone have an idea of what's going on during the four and five chords?

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I guess you mean what Little Walter did on that record where he played in 1st?
He did a bunch of stuff. I have copped some of it, but it changes from verse to verse.
Best advice I can give you is to get the recording into some kind of app where you can loop it, maybe slow it down a little and listen real big
A big part of it is that the riff goes kind of backwards, like a walk back
But iirc, at the end of the section where the riff is played, say “don’t you mess with me” he is hammering the 4 blow, then he goes to the 3’ and flips between 3’ an 2 draw in a little rhythm, you’ll really have to listen to get it, then comes out of that from the 3’ to the 2” +2 +1

That’s actually quite a lot of what goes on: +4 3’ 2 2” +2 +1, somewhat simplified in tab, there’s a bit of tongue action which I can’t tab out, and it’s likely confusing anyway so just find your way with that
In the 5 chord, one time I think he just plays 2 3’ +4 4/5 Shake ending with a 4 4’ 4 glis to the 2 draw, then follows with the +4 3’ 2, 2” +2 + 1 +4 3’ 2 3’ 3’ 2

The 2 3’ 2 3’ +4 to begin the cycle

There’s at least one other way he does that but I think maybe it’s different each time. I know I learned another way around which I thought was really great. In one verse I think he uses the 6 blow and 5 blow. I remember working it out and playing it with the band that way but then they dropped the song and I obviously hadn’t played it enough to retain it

Thanks man.

That's a great tune all around, with some iconic playing by Walter.

To be honest I'm a little iffy on 1st - except for Stephen Foster style, etc., and figured this might be a good exercise.
