I am wanting to run two instruments through one pedal board, specifically a harp mic and a guitar. Will a 1/4" Y cable do the trick or is there a better option (that preferably won't break the bank)?

Thanks in advance.

Playing one at a time, or together? If one at a time, then a pedal like the Fender ABY is good. It switches between the two input sources with a footswitch.

If together, then ideally you need a little mixer.

A Y-cable might work in practice, but given everyone here worries enormously about impedance matching, signal loss and tone suck, it's not ideal. Depends on your particulars e.g. a guitar with a 'active controls' plus a dynamic harp mic might be OK. A normal guitar plus a crystal mic I suspect might not work at all.

It would be one at a time. I was thinking about a small mixer, but I will definitely look into the ABY. That makes alot of sense. Thanks!

When I hook up 2 guitars to same amp or mixer I use [1 for slide open G]---[1 for regular guitar] I use a morley ABC splitter it has 3 but same principle---When I play open G i step off the A and step on my B--for slide---a light tells u what is activated

I use my effects for slide and different effects for regular guitr B4 THE MORLEY===the morely out I send to amp or mixer

the pedal can go in either direction-ie u can put your one guitar in the [1 out] and step on [A and B] then send A to one amp and B to 2nd amp---so both [A n B] would be lit up--the pedal works in both directions

I put a small mixer on my pedal board which also gives you the option of high or low z mics and independent gain levels.
