Hi guys, long time no see :)

Browsing the forum I just saw a thread about making a Youtube playlist with forum user's videos and I thought we should do the same with Spotify.

If you have your stuff on Spotify, feel free to share a link. I'll compile all the stuff into a playlist that will be posted on this same thread.

Sorry in advanced from any grammar mistake I could have made. My english is a little rusty.

Cheers!

This is a great idea. My music isn't on there but here are a few to bump the thread.

Kudzurunner:

Spotify is evil. Don't encourage them.

I'm not anti Streaming and streaming tech - it's a key tech for music distribution - I'm anti-exploitation business models such as Spotify. The new boss is literally worse than the old boss.

Just one article on them:
Spotify’s Obscene Exploitation

There's plenty more if you do the research.

You could set up an alternative stream via one of many different methods if you just want to showcase artists.

@Gus: thanks! Just added two songs to the playlist.

@Komuso: I get your point, but I think you're missing it. I'm not encouraging anybody to use Spotify. I'm calling MBH users to share the music they've actually uploaded to the platform, so other users can listen to them. I'm a Spotify user (both as an artist and as a consumer) and I'm trying to promote the work of fellow harmonica enthusiasts. If you know and/or use any other platform, I encourage you to do the same.

I highly disagree with Komuso, in stating Spotify is evil. If there's ever a website that is so evil, that IMO is akin to a malevolent dictator, hands down, it's YouTube. Ever since Google bought them out, nothing's been the same. Not only do they control music that can be downloaded, they're also the masters of controlling what people can post on their channels.

Whataboutism doesn't make Spotify less evil at all.

Komuso - I think I'm on AM & your on FM. You are referring to the music platforms whereas my rant regarding YouTube was more centered on people having a voice regarding their political and religious beliefs more than discussing music in general. But we can agree to disagree and still be thankful that we can wake up every day and both see our families and have a love for listening and playing music.

With all due politeness, No - we can't "agree to disagree".

This thread was about Spotify, not YouTube. Ironic that your rant was based on a tactic pulled straight out of the playbook used to suppress political and religious beliefs btw. You should read the link if you haven't to see why.

I'll reiterate.

All the evidence, despite how convenient it is for consumers, points to Spotify being yet another POS system designed to rip off the content creators it's actually built on.

As for Blues artists using it thinking it's going to give them more exposure & "success" I'd say get a better grip on the reality of the niche genre of music you're playing in. Online you can do that via a site with much more ethics and equitable financial conditions, such as Bandcamp. Market yourself. Roll your own. Collaborate.

Normally I'd also say use any channel you can. But Spotify has edged itself into the bin box as more information has come out about its business practices etc. So, screw them.

But I'll stfu about it now. Like politics, people rarely change their mind even when presented with evidence.

Apologies to Martic though, I know he hadn't been here for a while and maybe I kind of snapped his head off pumping a few barrels of vitriol into Spotify. But I'm a technologist and a musician, and I've had enough of these VC driven sharks who have no interest at heart other than their own profits.

With all due respect, Komuso, this thread wasn't about the virtues of Spotify until you derailed it. Maybe start your own OT thread if you wish to discuss that??

I'm curious. Isn't it up to the artist as to whether or not their music is on Spotify?

Hi guys, also made a little list with some high energy harmonica songs. Some old stuff but also some new and new-ish stuff, such as the Legendary shack Shakers and Daddy Long Legs, but also John Mayall. Tried to include some nice live work too.

Ah, now I see I was reading too fast. The thread is about music made by yourself.

I listened to the forum playlist and it was nice to hear the songs forummers make. Quite divers too.

I play harp in a band called Le Garage and we only have two harp songs on Spotify at this moment:

Maybe people could include links to their stuff, wherever it is on the web?

We can bypass the platform argument. I've got stuff on FB, Soundcloud, Myspace (unless it got deleted, I heard they had a transfer problem with older music recently), YouTube and Reverb. I look for some links. I just took an old concert off of Soundcloud because it was chewing up just about all of my space allotment. I'd only put it up because I wanted to share it with the old band.
