Just received a set of low d manji reedplates. The packaging is printed low d...the plates are marked low d...fitted them, then played along to a song in D and it didn,t sound right. Then compared it to my seydel low D,and it was completely different. Then compared it to my low Eb and it was the same....Low D reedplates in the key of low Eb!!
Anyone ever experience anything like this?

Yes, mistakes happen, even with Suzuki.

Sounds like you need to exchange them--are you in the US?

So you got Eb mis-labeled as D. Sucks, but things like that happen sometimes, I guess. Contact the seller and request an exchange

Well that's sucks.

Closest thing I've had happen was getting a flute in for repair that a customer bought which was supposed to be a D flute. Said he wanted me to work on the flute because he couldn't play it in tune.
However when I got the flute and played it I realized it was an Eb flute, which is not common.

I checked with the maker and he was sure the flute was a D flute. I had to send very precise measurements of the instrument before he would grudgingly admit that those were in fact the measurements he used for making Eb flutes, but he could not remember making it. I think the flute was 5 or 6 years old at that point.

Of course none of this helps you but yes, these things do happen, and instruments and or parts do, from time to time, get mislabeled. Could be worse, that flute cost the owner several grand, and he needed a D flute, not an Eb, but he'd purchased it second hand, so he was out of luck.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked the tuning of each reed on the harmonica in question? Are the all tuned for an Eb harp, or is it possible only some reeds were tuned improperly?
