CeDell Davis was from Helena, Arkansas and lived in Pine Bluff at the time of his death. He performed in a wheelchair due to handicaps from childhood polio. He used a butter knife to fret his guitar. Mr. Davis was a fine example of a person overcoming his disability to do what he wanted to do. CeDell was the first performer at the first King Buscuit Blues Festival in 1986 at Helena. New York Times writer/musician and Little Rock native Robert Palmer (1945-1997) performed with him at that show. RIP CeDell.

At the time the above video was made, the 25 mile drive on Highway 49 and Highway 61 between Helena AR and Clarksdale MS was a laid back two-lane drive. Now 61 is like a superhighway of cars going to the casinos. The gambling casinos have helped the poverty situation in the Delta somewhat by providing people jobs but is a casino economy really progress?
