I have this CD......all alternate takes via chess brothers....it seems the 3rd CD was in chronalogical order.....nearing the end of walters career and life.....there was one number where sax player was blowing all over his vocals and harp solos.....the 60s must have destroyed this legend.........

I have his collected Chess work - a 5-CD set, and I don't recall this. WHat's the name of the cut? There are also some live recordings from this period and I'm wondering whether that might be what you're describing.

I remember Charlie Musselwhite describing how Walter would be at a gig and would just sit staring into his hands, as if he was really doscouraged.

Walter's late-life version of "Watermelon Man" was pitifully bad. Not an alternate take, but very bad regardless. Wasn't there sax on that?

feel so bad is the name of cut....next one is chicken shack where walter had to compete with large horn section....he was such a volatile man Im surprised he was able to tolerate that....second CD has some of his work recorded in 1950s....he was outstanding on those sessions

There are two takes from February, 1966. The sax player sounds like a horse's ass. He could have backed off, cleaned up, and contributed instead of just spewing. But Walter sounds drunk when he sings. Here's Take 1:

Nearly a year later, on January 4, 1967, Little Walter and Bo Diddley did another recording, also titled Feel So Bad, that's actually quite decent, though you can hear how ravaged Walter's voice had become:

I didn't think the sax player sounded bad, but I agree it's too busy.
