I have been bringing in about $50 an hour minimum busking lately. Its the first time I've actually been able to make real money.

I haven't watched Adam's video yet but this is my formula:

Please send me a cheque for $50 and I will go step by step over my method. Cheque payable to just kidding...

The rural farmers markets are gold. I get drowned out by the saturation and bustle of the big city where people don't or forget to appreciate music. Find a local market outside the city. Often times they don't have buskers or music so they welcome the change. My strategy is always acoustic so you don't overwhelm/offend the vendors or anyone else. I also have a couple of children's songs up my sleeve. I play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star super bluesy, Old Macdonald or Jingle Bells. Really improv, work on tone and have fun with these tunes. That way we don't get bored. Since they are drilled into our heads we know where they are going and you can end phrases with flashy turnarounds easily.. That way the parents enjoy it and the children recognize it. It really works well. I also write songs and play songs about farming to connect to the farmers. Being a poor farmer its easy for me to relate to them and agriculture is so deeply connected to our little instrument.

Busk on and have fun! Just please stay away from the markets I frequent ;)

Oh yeah and buy some food to support your local food system, spur the rural economy and connect with farmers! Self serving statement!

Last night I was sitting on a porch swing with my girlfriend blowing some harp.

I think I was pretty far into it, but eventually she nudged me and a group of people just doing evening strolls had stopped in the street to listen.

When I finished they applauded (clearly they had no taste in music) , but one older gentleman told me I should " play at the weekly market and the tourist family fun night...That's so old timey you don't hear it anymore...I bet people would tip you".

I should have had a hat out then haha....my point is you are very right and I had to post because it was so coincidental.
