I may be passing near Trossingan in the near further so I was wondering if it was possible to arrange a Hohner factory visit? Also does anyone know if I could buy some spare parts whilst I was there. I want some Crossover cover plates and various other bits which are almost impossible to get in the UK.

I did the factory tour during the World Harmonica Festival in 2013.

Hohner gave the tours only on Saturdays when the factory wasn't actually working, but brought in about a dozen staff to run demonstration operations for a tour groups of about 50 visitors, which allowed us to see making of reeds, reedplates, covers, and plastic combs, and final tuning. They didn't show us milling of wood or metal combs due to dust and environmental factors.

Given the trouble and expense of bringing in staff on a Saturday, they may only do this for large groups. Try getting in touch with Gerhard Mueller or Richard Weiss for further information.

Are you not able to order parts from the Hohner C shop?

When I was there (NOT part of a group) - they did not offer a factory tour. However a stop at the Hohner Museum was really cool......

My favorite part of the Museum was the display of harmonicas that stopped a bullet - during World Wars - Germans carried their harmonica in their breast pockets.

Re buying parts, I buy all parts direct from Hohner online. German store has been great to deal with.

My wife is in Germany so I asked her to look into it, this is what she wrote:-

Ok, a museum tour takes 1 hour 15 minutes and is for groups only. They take groups starting at 7-10 people, which costs a minimum of €80. If more than 10 people it's an additional €4 per person. This museum tour than also includes a 1 hour town tour (times depend on the amount of questions people ask, so both tours can take longer) and tours can be done in German or English, just mention when booking.
Their email address for additional info and to book is: harmonika-museum@t-online.de
Their website address is: www.harmonika-museum.de
It can be changed to English (go to bottom of first page where they offer English and French translation) but I found the shop is only accessible through the original German website, so either go back or or click the More In German tab at the top and then the shop tab. Hope that helps and answers all questions.
