I broke down and ordered a Marine Band today, Key of "D." All my harps are Honers but I did have 2 Seydels. One was in C an the other D. Both crapped out around a week apart, which was weird since I didn't like them so never really played them, especially the D. Then they sat in my case with all my harps untouched for about 5 or 6 years. Took them out recently to try them and they died. Anyway, I have other C harps so I need a new D. I've been though other brands and the "next greatest" harp finds and all that. I didn't like anything I tried. For me Hohner is fine and I never had an issue with anyone I bought other than one that is a bit rough at the extended reed plate. So I'm sticking with what I like and not wasting money testing harps anymore.

I have enough Sp20's and I really like them. They are smooth and fast and play great. However, I find them a bit bright...maybe because they are loud...I'm not sure. Maybe it's just the lack of crunch. I prefer a dirtier sound. It's really hard to tell though...I really do like the Sp 20. But there is something about the Marine band. The look. The look and color of the wooden comb. The feel of it in my hands ( I guess cause it's smaller) and the way it feels (comfortable) as far as size between my lips. The sp 20 feels smoother actually but it seems a bit...just a tad...too fat/round. It somehow makes me drool while playing. So I thought I'd try a new Marine band since I haven't purchased a harp since around 2011 or 2012 and haven't bought a Marine band since I don't know when. I have enough sp 20's. If the Marine Band isn't to my liking then I'll get a sp 20 in D and be done with it. I have a Crossover in C, and a Deluxe in Bb as well as those keys in Sp 20's among others.

I know people like to do things to their harps and most modern folk like "new fangled" stuff. I'm simple. I even hate renting cars cause their all new. I can't handle technology and buttons and screens and crap. No car key?? WTF?
My car has no bells or whistles. I don't like all the new stuff. My wife's car is a 2013 (not that new) but too much for me to understand...I hate it. So all my harps (accept one) are untouched and (for me) they have all been fine out of the box. Then again, I'm kind of an oddball musically, my beliefs and how I learn and practice. Don't give me technical mumbo jumbo...just show me what you want and I'll copy it! But it works for me!

So old school it is. Marine Band. Done!
I ordered from Rockin' Ron so I have no worries as far as shipping time. Numero uno!

I hope you didn't get one made in the last year, because they suck. Apparently due to climate change many of the molecules they are using are vibrating slightly faster compared to previous years. Basically everything is out of sync with the righteous sounds we love from the pre Aquarian age. Good luck with it.

I was wondering about that before I ordered! ; )

Funny, I don't own a smartphone or tablets or any of that. I stopped posting here around 2012 mostly because I wasn't playing harp and was focusing on singing but eventually I gave up all forums and although I have a FB page it's really only a music page of my covers and I haven't posted there in over a year other than one plug for my book. I'm not at all into social media.
But suddenly...out of nowhere...I picked up the harp again a few weeks ago, then found myself signing in here because I was having a hard time getting an answer to a question. Typically anything I, or anyone might ask on a forum can be answered if you search enough without joining a forum. (yea...you can tell I have no friends right?) .

So here I am once again. The only thing is I really feel "different." Like an outcast. My music/learning views are so different and as far as harmonica goes, I'm confused about myself. I really don't know where I stand or what it is I do as far as playing. ( Am I the best?...chuckle). But, yea...I'm old school man. A stubborn old dude.

ejakon, the Seydels were a Soloist Pro and a Blues Session. I didn't care for them. They looked nice and the covers were pretty much the smoothest covers I've felt/played but the harp was a mustache grabber and I didn't care for how thy played either.
